first ever grow

hey ive decided after a bit of consideration to try a grow as i'm fed up of paying high prices for low quality street weed.
ive baught a 60x60x140 grow tent and am planning on growing a mother and 2 clones, fem nlxbb, i was planning on using a cfl setup starting of early veg with a 85w 6400 then going onto 2 of those a week before switching it onto flower.
Flowering by using 2 85w 2700'son top of the plants then eventually adding another 2 on top and more 2700's around the sides of the plants to ensure the majority of the plant has good light, also i know temp wont be a issue for me as i allready have a thermostat i can use with fan, as ive been brewing wines for over 10 years ive heard that the carbon dioxide helps produce good sized buds and ive worked out a system that i can have a constant slow feed of it into the top of the tent so the carbon dioxide sinks down over the plant. i was planning on eventually using around 12 85w 2700's towards the end of the grow, i know it all seems a bit daft as to why do that instead of just going straight for a hps but i figure i can place the light a lot better around the plants this way to give it most light i can, without having any stupidly hot bulbs. I have read marijuana buds for less by seemorebuds and from reading this i cant see any problems coming from the method i intend on using.

but then i'm a complete novice and would appreciate any advice on alterations to the way i described, also would it matter if i used the 2 6400's as well as the 2700's when flowering or does it work best just to use 2700's?

any help would be muchly appreciated

I'd advise, as I do anyone with a first ever grow, especially with a spit setup like it looks like you're talking, get an autoflower along with the mother plant. It's a good way to test out your set up with an easy to grow plant that'll throw you a little bit of tasty bud while testing out your set up.

thanks for the advice i'll have to get a auto next time as allready put the world of seeds northern lights x big bud fem in germinating, got my lights arrive today in the post think i'm going to have to get a bigger tent as theyre huge, i expected normal household sized cfl's as ive seen in all the guides etc but these are a foot long!

also as i'm using a mylar tent i'm unsure wether i'll need reflectors or not :s

If you dont mind sharing, how are you useing your carbon dixoide system in your tent? im very interested in hearing new methods of useing CD in a grow. it seems like alot of hassle for your everyday low budget grow...so if you will, plz explain.

oh and for the light question, its almost impossible to have to much light, stuff as many in their as you want/can....you will know if you have to much light (usually occuring with MH & HPS systems) you will start to see white spots on your plant, its called sun bleached, in that rare case, simple reduce your light

hi, i'm going to run either a cheap homebrew kit or a basic water sugar yeast mix in a 5gallon bucket drill a hole big only just big enough in the lid of the bucket to tightly fit a hose pipe into, then take that hose put it into a 2 litre clear plastic bottle, making sure the pipe reaches close to the bottom of bottle, then make a few small holes around the top of the bottle for smaller plastic air tubes and run these into the tent and hang one of 2 above each plant fill the plastic bottle around 3/4 full of water so can easily stand up by itself, that way can see how much cd is being produced and being fed to the plants, wether or not it will make enough difference to notice i dont know as ive never even grew before. i'm planning on using the exact same cd setup for the first few grows so i can see what to expect then try altering amounts of cd being produced by using different quality yeasts (ie high alcolhol yeasts) plus whith being able to see the amount produced i will be replace some of the brewing mixture with more water/sugar solution as the grow goes on to try keep the alcohol at the highest rate of cd production

heres a couple of pics of the light bulbs i'm going to be using, at the min this has 2 of each 2700's and 6400's but will only use the 64's from veging and i'm unsure wether they will be of any benefit during the flowering or not? my tent arrives thursday so going to start it on light then, will be popping the seed in soil tommorrow, probably evening time and will take some pics of every step and upload them as i take them :-)

hi all, its been a couple of days so heres a update, i got myu tent arrive a day early (yesterday) and couldnt wait to get it put up and in place!! ive placed a order for 10 bulb holders as my top 4lights will be using the 4 in 1 adapter as in the last post, ive worked out how i'm going to use my other lights around from the sides ive decided i'm only going for one plant for a first grow as my tents only small and figure i'll see how this goes and maybe go for a second plant on the next grow if i think there will be room.

the thing that i'm debating now is wether to use the fem seed thats sprouted or to take a cutting when its big enough and use that n keep the mother in natural light, someones told me that because its from seed its got a slightly higher chance of turning herm than a cuttin? it doesnt seem to make sence to me and woulda thought that as the clones the same genetically to the mother that its got the same chance?, in any case i thought that turning herm is usually due to stress which hopefully wont happen :-)

I should have a couple of pics up tommorro soon as my lamp holders arrive.

today i'm going to build a basic hood frame i was planning on using a mylar emergency jacket to cover it with unless anyone has any better ideas?

its very refreshing to see a novice that isnt completely stupid, you have obviously done some research before asking questions on here. it sounds like youve got a pretty good handle on what you need to do! :)

thanks, i work night shifts and can get away with having my laptop with me gives me time to read up on here :) i only stumbled across this site as i was googling a few questions, really glad i found it and i think i'm gonna be on here a lot more as i progress with my plants :-)

well things have changed, i'm now not going to use this cfl system, i'm currently running one 85 watt cfl as my plants only on day 14 , I will be switching to 2 of these when its a little bigger. anyway i'm planning on vegging for another 14 days so it will have 28 days of vegging which should give me time to take a few clones and root them before switching to 12/12 under a 600 watt hps a little later in the flowering i will introduce a couple of 85 watt 2700 cfls as side light. anyway heres a few pics from today Day 14 (3).jpgDay 14.jpgDay 14 (2).jpgDay 14 (4).jpg

They look very healthy, but the soil seems too high? Did you just transplant them or something?

The stem is barely poking out.

I'm on my first grow though so

yeah i thought that myself about being little low, only trasplant i did was when i had a shoot around 1cm long germinating in paper towel planted that straight into the big plant pot, i only planted it around between .5 and 1 cm deep but i used the cfl bulb around 2-3 inches away from the plant so its hardly stretched plus its a northern lights x big bud and i've been told that that will stay fairly short anyway.
the low branches wont be a problem though as i'm going to take 4 clones when shes ready :-)

well yesterday morning i put her under a extra cfl as she is growing a bit and thought it aint gonna do any harm to give her twice the light so now shes under 170watts of cfl :-) the temps sitting a little higher around 3-4 degrees high at around 30 degrees c now. i'll take a few pics this evening along with last nights pics so can see if the extra light has any bearing on daily growth. i am now looking into which nutes i'm going to use as i believe she will be now able to handle something like 1/10th strength :-) going to check whats allready in the compost shes in at the minute though as its got 4 month time release nutes in it :-)

well its been a busy week or so, shes now on day 27! couple of days ago I got my new setup arrive, gone for a 120x120 eco-bud tent, 600 watt hps and a 4 inch fan n filter set, I have been too busy to spend as much time as I would of liked to on getting it set up but i'm just about there, i'm now just awaiting my new digital ph tester and some more ducting as there wasnt enough with the kit, I have managed to squeeze the new tent in the room with the smaller tent as well, this evening I am going to be setting up my carbon dioxide system as I am going to brew 5 gallons of banana wine, I will take a hosepipe through the lid of the brewing vessel feed this into a empty 2 litre bottle (push the pipe down to the bottom of bottle) fill this 3/4 full with water and take smaller pipes from around the side of the top of the bottle and use these to supply the feed of carbon dioxide to the plant, last night I have also put a new seed in to germinate a feminised burmese kush. I'll try to spend a bit more time with it this evening and get a few pics uploaded, she did suffer from overheating 4 or 5 days ago now but i sorted that out and her new leaves are all very healthy :-)

well here it is updated pics finally lol have to excuse the mess of a setup it is at the min hope it shows the small tent next to it, currently running empty but that will soon be changing as soon as i switch to the hps hopefully tomorrow if the rest of me things arrive anyway heres the pics DSC00226.jpgDSC00233.jpgDSC00228.jpgDSC00232.jpgDSC00227.jpgDSC00230.jpgDSC00234.jpgDSC00229.jpgDSC00225.jpgDSC00231.jpg

well i went to check on my mother and her to daughters, i'm afraid one didnt make it but the others looking good, after one day its leaning to the light so i took out the failed attempt and took another cutting clonexed it and put it in rockwell cube, made sure the cubes are nice n wet n put the cover back on the propergator. also the burmese kush which we put in to germinate 2 days ago had a shoot alomst a inch long so we potted this in a small plantpot of coco soil and waterd her with still bottled water.
