First Ever for GardensGrow

That looks like classic Mg deficiency to me. It shows on lower leaves first, and gradually moves up the plant. Rust spots and yellowing and falling leaves follows.

I haven't read this thread in a long time, but I would bet that you are using nutrients without magnesium. Am I correct?

ceestyle I think you hit the nail right on the head. I went ahead and grabbed some Epsom salt and mixed that in with my water. After a couple days things seem to be improving. Thank you good sir.

Also updates on the plant. You can see growth hasn't been very vigorous with the Mg deficiency but I think things are about to take off again.

That looks more like a shrub than a single plant. I have just tried the LST'ing on my first plant. I hope I get as good a result as you.

Thanks ceestyle, it really is amazing.

Raul, I highly recommend it (no pun intended). I don't even know where I'm going to start when it's time to take her down. It does take a bit of patience though, so be aware!

I have no idea what's going on with my plants. The previously mentioned problems have gotten worse.

I went ahead and flushed the soil with a quarter-strength nutrient solution. However, if it is the salts in my tap water that are causing the problem in the first place, then I'm just doing that in vain.

You can see that the buds aren't really that dense. Also you might be able to notice that some of the pistols are starting to turn brown. Unless flushing the system fixed my problem, I don't think she'll fill out in time for the harvest in 4 weeks or so.

I'm definitely going to try my hand at hydroponics next time around.

Aside from all that, here are a few bud shots plus an overview:

Somethings up. But I wouldn't be concerned about flower density at this stage. Those flowers look fuller than mine were at 4 weeks of flower time. Maybe even a lot fuller.

I'd get some good pics of the leaves' problems and start soliciting advice in various "infirmary" sub-forums. Pretty sure there's one here and I've had good success posting in the one at ICMAG. Someone has probably seen that problem before.

BTW, are you pH testing your water? If not, I would. I'm no expert but I understand that the presence of nutrients does not ensure they are making it into the plant. If the pH of the water going in is outside of a certain range, nutrients get "locked-out" and become unavailable to the plant even if the nutrients are physically present. There are charts floating around that illustrate at which pH levels various nutrients are able to be taken in by the plant.

Are you still administering Cal-Mag or Epsom Salts?

What are you currently feeding them? I would suggest getting some nutes with micros and Mg next time.

Don't worry about the density. They do the most bulking up in the last few weeks.

Hmmmm. I am going to suggest that for your next grow you consider using a soilless medium and stay away from potting mixes that contain slow release fertilizers(i.e. Miracle Grow). Slow release fertilizers and mixes that contain it are not usually recommended for growing marijuana indoors. Most of your top hydro and soilless mix fertilizers are designed to work immediately and after a few flushes, they are gone. Slow release fertilizers can have a long term cumulative effect and interact with other fertilizers that you might be using. The Mg deficiency issue and what you have done to treat sounds right too. Good luck!

Hey guys, sorry for the delay but I've been so busy with classes that I've barely had time to do anything outside of school life.

I really appreciate all the help you guys have been providing me.

At this point in time I am feeding the plants with a mild solution of instant nutrients (that include micronutrients) and will start flushing with plain water by the end of this week.

The buds themselves seem to be healthy enough, even if the leaves around them are looking pathetic.

I have given up hope on trying to correct the problem at this point and will just take what I can get off of them in a couple of weeks.

I'm just ready to chop this baby down; it's been a long ride and I'm ready for it to be over.

I will definitely be switching to hydro if I ever decide to do this again. I'm probably going to by a small hydro system and grow some vegetables over the winter just for fun. If I get the itch again I'll try to grow a few more "Michelle's"

So I finally harvested the plant. It was a week earlier than what they said but I'm pretty sure she was good to go. All that time in the pre-flower stage probably helped out.

So here are the picture of the manicured buds. Some of the smaller ones I cut down and placed on racks. The top rack was manicured right before I took these pictures. The bottom rack has been sitting for a couple days

The close up picture of the two buds hanging is one I took immediately after manicuring on my second time around; the rest have been hanging for a couple days.

Let me know what you all think.

I have no idea on the weight. I'm going to guess 2 oz dried. Waiting for the cure is definitely a tough thing to do. I might quick dry a few little guys this weekend just to give it a try.

Good luck with your ladies.

Congrats on a really superb grow--very nice, especially for a first grow! Hopefully, we get a potency/taste report soon. You were right about the LST, my experiment is going very well too.

For those still interested, the total weight came in at just under 3 ounces. I still have yet to smoke any because most of my friends don't smoke so I've got to find a good smoking partner.
