First DWC Grow!!! (DinaFem Fruit Auto)

Thanks Wonin!

I don't know if raising PPMs daily is the best idea. I would think leaving at certain PPM for the week and once you do a rez change then up the PPMs by 100-200. By adding nutes everyday like that I would think you would have a nute lockup or something. I may be wrong tho. Your grow and roots look awesome!! Keep up the good work!!
Hmm, that's a good call. What does everyone else do? Just top up with RO water? If I didn't top up on nutrients I think I'd be sitting at about 100ppm currently. Is it okay for plants to get low on PPM?

Latest pix: pH 5.9
PPM: 280 (topped up on A+B nutrients 3 times since last res change)

Just my experience. But my plants eat what they want. I read the plants, not the meter so to speak. My PPMs are at 975 currently and when I add the top up water to the rez the PPM might drop to around 940. I leave it alone and do not try to raise it back to 975. And after a day it usually back to 975. The plants will take in whatever water or nutes they want out of the rez. So instead of always changing it to 975 everytime I add water, I let them tell me what they want and they usually do. If your PPMs keep getting lower without you adding water then maybe you should up the PPMs during that rez change. You will never know what they can handle until you push them a little bit, but don't overdo it. Looking Good!!

Edit: After looking at your pics again and seeing that you are at 280 PPM. At the stage you are at with growth I would be around 650-700. You have to top up with nutes so much cuz they are being underfed with nutes. Any other opinions on this?

Sounds like a good plan BluBerry. Today is res change day anyhow, I'll push them to 400ppm and watch how things look and start to up every week by 100ppm if it allows.

Don't be scared to give them about 600 PPM. If you start to notice any kind of burn then drop it back down. But I don't see why there would be an isse. But 400 will be better than 280 at that stage. Keep us posted

Upped the PPM's to 580 last res change and started to see some burn on the fruit auto plant. So after a day of that I lowered it down to 450ppm and everyone seems happy again. The 3rd dimension didn't seem to mind at all but since she's not flowering yet I'm going to focus more on the fruit automatic. I'm also starting to suspect the 3rd dimension is a male... since I'm on 24/0 lighting if it is a male, it won't drop pollen right?

I think they can handle the 580 but since they have been going at 280 then the jump may have startled them. So 450 should be fine. You should be able to go to to 600 PPM next rez change if you want. No rush tho. I try to up them about 100-150 each rez change. They look very healthy and I love the roots. That makes me wanna switch to DM Zone as well. My roots look like horrible compared to those. I am using Voo Doo Juice from AN and its supposed to cause explosive roots but I have yet to see those results. Keep up the good work man they look great!!

agreed, looking great! Not sure I understand the question but if it's a male, it sure will drop pollen. It should be showing sex by now tho, in my exp the males show earlier than females so maybe you got lucky with this one... Maybe next time it would be best to run one strain, makes feeding @ optimal levels easier/possible.
Looking good so far bud :-)

@BluBerry - Thanks! Yea I think your right, next res change I'll be bumping to 600ppm. I was considering AN VooDoo Juice also but instead went with Roots Exceleratur... which failed miserably. The 3rd day on RE I had horrible slime and the water smelled like a fish tank. So I ditched the RE and instead went for a full sterile environment with DM Zone. So far I must admit, the DM Zone is kicking butt.

@whodat - Thanks! I meant, if I left my lights on 24/0 will a male plant drop pollen? Or does a male act like a female plant where it needs to be 12/12 to start dropping pollen? If it can still drop pollen at 24/0 I think I'll just pull the plug on him tonight.

Do some research before you pull it but I think the answer is yes. Your roots look fantastic! for some reason I couldn't see that pic before but now I can.

Update!

So the TGA 3rd Dimension turned out to be a male, (phew) caught him before he dropped his load on the Fruit Auto.

pH: 5.8~
ppm: 350 (started at 450 last rez change), had to top back up to 400 yesterday and it already down to 350. will set ppm to about 500~ next rez change.

Day 43: Update! I got my hands on a 400w HPS w/ Hortilux HPS! Should really get her going ;). Also started to top off with RO water + Canna PK 13/14 since I'm technically in week 6 of flowering.

pH: 5.7
ppm (0.7 conversion): 540

First pic is the roots from the TGA 3rd Dimension that turned out to be a male. Everything else is from the currently flowering Dinafem Fruit Auto

props! i really like how when you had them in the 3 inch pot and put it in a 6in pot with hydroton surrounding it...i was trying to figure out how to transplant from my 3 inch pot into the 6 inch since i cant buy 3 inch net pots with the lids...i ended up just putting the whole thing net pot and all in coco! haha its working plus coco so far has been very good to me, im also running rdwc/dwc hopefully i have great looking girls like you! goodluck pimp playa!

Update! Just started venturing deeper into the 6th week since seed. Flowers are starting to popup everywhere and gain some weight. I've started to incorporate Canna PK 13/14 as a flower booster, so only time will tell now..

pH: 6.2 (bumped it up this morning, keeps going down everyday)
PPM: 540ppm

thanks micro!

Update!

Week 7: The ppm keeps going down every day and the pH has stabilized at 5.8. This Canna Aqua stuff really works! The bottle says it has some pH buffers help stop or atleast keep the pH swing under control. Seems to be working for me! Anyhow, next rez change I'll up the nute strength to 600ppm. She really looks like she's starting to pack on some weight!

pH 5.8 / ppm 460

The material is called Reflectix and can be bought at Home Depot or Lowes. I was at my local Hydro shop and saw they had this 99% reflective material that also blocked IR and acted as an insulation barrier. They wanted some godly 100 bux for a tiny roll.. but upon inspection the material felt and looked just like something I've worked with before. So I went to my local Lowes and found Reflectic sold in a similar style roll, that looked exactly the same and felt the same. But a whole bunch cheaper.

Reflectix: http://www.lowes.com/pd_13358-56291-BP48025_0__?productId=3011906

This stuff is amazing, it keeps my room temperature and humidity right where I want it and gives great reflection from my HPS. I also cut them to make "jackets" for my buckets and cut circles for the lids.
