Ffof ocean forrest as a replacment to roots in supersoil

I have experimented with TGA's supersoil recipe with varied amounts of success/failures. As I am sure TGA would agree, his recipe will be forever changing with new information and testing. However, if you are inclined to change the recipe, the base soil is a very important part. Ocean Forest is not a suitable replacement for roots soil, even though it is a good quality soil, its just too hot. Just FYI

Actually I'm running pandora's box using a 2:1 FFOF and LW and my plants are dank at week three of flower. Now I know that some people besides you have expressed that this soil is too hot, maybe it is if you use FFOF alone, but with the LW it seems to taper the heat down a tad. If anything the one on the right looks to be fading a little bit early. I have used these soils as base soil for SS, but this time around it's just the FFOF and LW plain and simple

No I was saying if you use ffof in subcools supersoil mix, as a replacement to his roots soil, the supersoil be too hot. Your doing that grow with only ffof/lw and no nutes??

"Your doing that grow with only ffof/lw and no nutes??" Yeah, my outdoor grow I used FFOF/LW as the base in super soil. This time on my first indoor grow it's just FFOF/LW base soil. No nutes. Just water and light. I think a lot of it has to do with specific strains, some are light feeders some are ravenous

Why did you decide to not use supersoil on your indoor grow?

I actually just wanted to see what would happen. Plus my super soil was made too late in the season and didn't cook.

See my soil sig, I use SPENT FF soils as my base in organics with no issues. The key is that it is SPENT before I recycle it into my custom mix.
When I first started to use it I would go an entire cycle (4w/8w) using only 25% of nute dosages with no issues at all. After the first cycle the dirt winds itself down QUICK!

funny you say that, because I started these plants in spent/pre-used FFOF. Good observation on your end

I spent a good two months "in the weeds" if you will when the soil died the first time. Went from massive cola harvests to newb looking BS all the sudden. Took me awhile to wrap my head around the living soil concept and to realize what had happened to my dirt. Started using soil replacement but got sick of paying the bills for it, then it all clicked and I have not looked back from organics yet except to shake my head at my old follies.

So far so good. I think that one is going to run out of juice and may need a feeding in my profile pic it's the one on the left... As far as the buds before of week three or four they smelled great, but now they are full fledged cherry and lemon and had the classic TGA resin coated fan leaves. I'll post em up when they finish... I hate the slow pace of journaling so I just wait till the end :)
A word of warning though, in the beginning these plants adjusted terribly to the soil. it burned them up,. they "grew into it" all right but it was a painful seedling stage for sure. So yes the soil can be a bit hot on younger plants.P1010039.jpgP1010046.jpg

I use a 50/50 mix of FFOF and Happy Frog, the HF seems to cool it down just enough. Light Warrior is too light IMO. Week 3 Flower...

I just haven't posted it so far... plus this is my first indoor grow so it was a terrible start so I'm just feeling it out first. I will post pics of harvest eventually. they are still four-five weeks away from that though.

I may be able to show ya a few cool pics. I'm not much for full blown journaling, but I will post a few pics in here on this thread if that's cool with you. It would only serve as an example of a pure FFOF/LW and fed only tap water straight out of the sink.

OK man well here is Pandora's Box about to be week 8. I think that Super Soil is great. There is no doubt that this plant would have performed better in that versus this FFOF/LW base soil that it was in this run. That being said Pandora's Box is still epic in overall dankness. The smell almost clears your sinuses with a lime cherry tartness. And she looks stellar with the cool night temps reaching as low as 58 degrees Fahrenheit, the purple/pink tops and curly sugar leaves are cool with me. The soil did a decent job, but the strain itself is by far better than anything I've grown yet. my first indoor actually:-P well here it is...... double click the pic and peep em in fullsize. my camera skills are amateur btw
