Few questions about a troubled seedling

I have recently started some new seedlings that are now 1 week old. Ak48.

One of the seedlings was growing strongest and I came home one day to see it had fallen over on its side. The pot seemed pretty light and soil dry so I gave it some water. When I came back it was standing up straight again.

Now the seedling has stopped growing, the cotyledons(little round leaves) are yellowed and shrivelled up, and the 2 real leaves are pointing straight up. It looks really bad but the leaves aren't dead and the seedling is still standing straight up. It has been in this state for several days, while the other seedlings in the exact same condition are doing fine. I was thinking it might be damping off, but why would it stand back up after laying down?

I am using no nutes, just water with PH of about 6.6. I did plant a new seed last night and the runoff tested at 5.5, could this be the problem?

Any hope of this seedling recovering? Temps are about 80, Cfl bulbs, oscillating fan. Sorry no pic, unable to post pics currently

oh and the cotyledons look dead at this point, and way too early for that. Maybe they can still perk up again? The seedling really looks bad tho, but I would like to save it if I can

the plant will use them as food when it needs them and they will turn yellow then or if they're not getting enough light then that will also cause them to yellow. i dont see what you have said as a problem as it is normal for the cotyledons to die off at the stage your at, as the plant doesn't need them anymore. but they have yellowed for a reason, the plants telling you it needs something. could be it needs more light or its ready for its first feed. either way i think the plant is ready for the next stage of fast growth so its probably time for more light and a bit of a feed.

it only has 2 leaves other than the cotyledons and is a tiny seedling. I really dont think its time for them to die. The other seedlings have a few sets of leaves now and their cotyledons are in good shape. I've grown many plants and never had them die off at this early before. The seedling as a whole looks very unhealthy, and I think nutes this early would kill it for good.

The others are doing fine under same lighting and again I've used same lighting for seedlings in the past with no troubles

Thanks for the input tho and if nothing else maybe I will give your ideas a try because it seems like its lost anyway

I really need to get a pic up because I think a pic would show a lot better what I'm talkin about

I'm thinking you might be right about a lost cause. I just dont understand what happened it started out so healthy looking and strong and then went to crap out of nowhere. Thought I'd see if the good RIU folks had any ideas before tossing it

i wouldn't toss it out just yet, i mean it is a weed, and weeds can bounce back from near death sometimes. so don't lose all hope just yet. you did say it had 2 real leaves, are they heathy and green looking? if so, then your little plant is still in the running.

No they aren't healthy. They're still green but starting to discolor a bit. The edges of the leaves are bent and pointing straight up, kind of like rams horn but pointing up instead of down. The center where new growth should be coming out of is dark looking . I just dunno part of me thinks its dead but if its dead why is it still standing straight and stuff

hmm, interesting predicament your in. well without anyone else putting their two cents in, i would just wait it out a few more days, and if it is still in bad shape, try giving it some special attention with lighting first, then if its still looking sorry, try some nutes. but hopefully you'll get someone else to make a comment who perhaps has had your problem before and can tell you whats wrong.

yea and hopefully I can add a pic for better info.

Anyone have any tips on runoff PH? Is 5.5 real bad for the runoff? I got the water at 6.6 and am using a mixture of peatmoss, vermaculite and perlite, no nutrients till the repot.

its low, you want a ph of about 6.0-6.5 so you need your water to be a little bit more alkaline.
