Feedback on butter recipe, pretty please?

Hi all! I am new here, and new to making edibles. To be honest, I am just getting back into pot. First time since high school - over 20 years ago. I will admit that I am ignorant regarding all things pot.

I prefer to make edibles, for numerous reasons. I made my first budder like this, more as an experiment than anything else. I have to keep the smell to a minimum so my teens aren't questioning it.

1 gr of bud, with one stick (1/2 cup) of butter in a sealed mason jar.
crushed the bud with my fingers to the best of my ability - it was pretty fine.
decarbed at 220* for 20 minutes in the sealed mason jar. After it cooled down to handle it, I took it outside and opened it, to release the pressure. Not sure if this step was necessary, but it seemed like a good idea.
In sealed mason jar, I placed it in the crock pot, with water 3/4 up the side of the jar, on low, for 8 hours. I shook the jar occasionally. I worried about it not being warm enough, so I set the crock pot on high for 1.5 hours - did not boil, I watched it closely. Then shut off the crock and let it cool for 3 hours, still in the water. I then strained using cheese cloth, and had no floatees. I then chilled it solid - probably 4 hours. I then used all of the butter in a betty crocker brownie mix, in an 8x8 pan at 325*. Oh, to get the butter liquid again, I ran the sealed jar under warm water. Brownies cooked fine, and tasted fine. I cut the brownies into 6 pieces, and felt quite the buzz 2 hours after eating it. Overall, I was pleased with this. I would like to be able to eat less brownie though.

So here is my next plan...
I want to use coconut oil, and make a larger batch. Oil rather than butter, so I can store it outside of the fridge.
I am thinking 4 gr bud with one cup of oil. decarb it the same, 220* at 20 minutes in sealed mason jar. Place in crock pot on low for at least 8 hours, then finishing it up for an hour or so on high. Add soy lecithin - though I am still questioning how much. A couple of tablespoons for the cup of oil? Then shut off crock and let it cool to almost room temp, but still liquid. Strain as before. Use as before with brownie mix. I assume I can eat much less brownie with the increased bud.

What do you think? Is there any crucial steps I am missing? I really have tried to do my research! Thanks for all the feedback!

I use an ounce of close trim per pound of butter... It's mostly bud with some sugar leaves. If anything, you need more bud. Potency is a personal thing, but I don't see how a gram of the best weed in the world be enough for an entire batch of brownies.

That's what I assumed as well. I was just trying the method and didn't want to waste a bunch - and if anything I was testing the smell factor while my kids were out of town. BUT - that being said, I *did* feel it. Maybe because it was my first time in over 20 years? And in order to feel it, I had to eat 1/6th of the pan. I know what I have read here and other places, and I was shocked. But I *did* feel it.

With all of that being said, do you have any feedback on the planned recipe?

I think it's good... I've never used coconut oil though. When I use crock pots though, I set them on low and let them go for at least 24 hours. I'm sure the link in Vostok's post will do you more good than any advice I could give you concerning coconut oil. On a side note, I use "10 deep fryer cone filters to filter the butter with. It leaves almost zero residue, just great green butter. I'm Sure it'll work for oils as well, just be sure it cools a bit first.

High Dapper :) Your recipe looks great to me. I use 150 grams popcorn/trim to 8 sticks/2 lbs of butter. I make coconut oil the same exact process as with the butter - if making with trim. If making hash coconut oil it is a different process. Vostok's link will help you out

Thanks everyone! Truckstop13 - I will let the oil crock for 24 hours. There seems to be mixed feelings as to how long to let it stew, no matter which method. But it certainly won't hurt to let it sit in the crock for 24 hours. And actually will make things a bit easier timing wise and working around my kids!

The link that vostok gave, although much appreciated, is a bit over my head. It's only the first post that has info, unless I am missing something?

Thanks for the reassurance, fumble!

Anyone have an idea of how much soy lecithin to use? Reading threads, I can't seem to find any real specifics. BadKat uses 1/4 tsp, then an 1/8 tsp later - to fill 15 concentrated capsules. She started with 5.5 gram and 2.5 tsp of coconut oil. But I am not sure how that would translate over to making a cup of infused oil. And stbwolfe uses 1/4 cup to 2 cups of butter in the crock pot. And another uses 2 tsp for 2 lbs of butter. Is there a problem if you accidentally used too much? My instinct right now says to use 1/8th of a cup (2 tbs) for my 1 cup of oil.

Hey Dapper :) When I make my butter, with the above amounts, I use about 3 glugs of liquid lecithin. I think it equals about 3 teaspoons or so. I have used 'too much' before and all that happens is the end butter, when solid, had some of the lecithin rising to the top and sitting atop the butter. No problem with the butter itself though.
