fed up with bogus doctors

This post is a rant and a question of opinion,
ive been suffering with back pain since i was a early teen that has progressed
into what it is now. today i seen a group of doctors that call them selfs pain management specialist's. and one of the doc's Ive seen before today he is a doc of orthopedics and a dr of chiropractics. this doc doesnt seem to care what im saying to him as if he thinks that im thare just for the pain pills, a junkie to put it bluntly now i do admit that from my past ive been addicted to cocain and did my owen recovery with no relapse about 7 years ago. but every time a doc tor trys to give me nercotics i decline them because im afraid that i might get into old habits, and i openly admit to being a pot head but i use mainly to help me with pain and mental problems that i beleive is caused by my consistant pain.
anyways they wanna put me threw another round of physacal theropy as if the 5 other times helped at all. and there half assed diagnosis was non specific back pain with derangment syndrom but i had to basicly strangle him for this diagnosis. but any way i have been unable to work due to this pain sofar two years ive been threw countless job changes and dr's chriro's . shrinks family docs. and thats the best they can come up with. from everything that i have researched on the net, states that a person with this condition should be able to work a job of anytype with out a problem.
but my question is if thats the case, how come i cant get outa bed, play with my kids, take meds that make me sick with stomach problems every day if this is some easly cured thing and all this for a bit of pain releif
and i cant find out if disablity is an option for me to look at cause they wont write the diagnosis down. or is this the point they dont want to tell me the real diagnosis because i might go down and get disablitiy, so i can pay my bills and not have to worrie are my kids going to be warm this winter and so forth.
ok i think that im done ranting for a min. thanks for listening.
im interested what the med users on riu thinks and looking for opinions. thanks

Where in the hell am I?

OK, I know ya said ya were just ranting, but I always try to do my best to help EVERY1!
My sister has so many similarities to the pain, lack of help, and mental fatigues that you explained in yer rant that it is not even funny!
Have ya ever heard of fibromyalgia? Ya shud check this out, brah:
http://www.fmnetnews.com/basics-symptoms.php
YOU have to be the 1 to read up on it and do yer research! Yer docs will try to find n-e thing but THIS as a diagnosis, but it is always worth researching to see if this cud be causing yer pain!
Hope that helps some, and best of luck to ya!

Hey thanks for replieing
its kinda funny that you mention fibromyalgia thats why my fam doc sent me to a pain specialist group, to rule this out. because ive done the research like you mentioned. and have come to my conclusion that the symptoms described 95 percent of my alments. and have been on alot of the drugs recomended to take for fibro. to say my family doc was impressed that i came up with that diagnosis because he never thought of it. my doc is farly young so it hasnt been long since his reefer days in med school. and i like him alot and hes been trying tobe helpfull. but i got kinda outraged at the pain team today.

do you have a history of drug addiction?
The only real problem that ive had was a cocain addiction that i mentioned in my first post, and along with the cocain there was pain killers and muscle relaxers but i only did them when the cocain wasent cutting the pain. i kicked that habit 7 years ago. why do you ask????

I'm in IL too. Is your doctor part of a Network? Networks just like to bounce you around from one doctor to the next collecting co pays.

I once had to go to the doctor 3 times in 1 week to get something for a migraine. I have no history of addiction, yet the first two visit's I was told to take ibuprofin, even though I'd been taking that for 2 days before I went to the doc and the headache didn't go away. Once they collected their 3rd copay in a week ($30 per copay) then they gave me a shot to sleep off the headache.

I actually control my migraines buy avoiding the source of them.

I smoke a lot of weed too, I'm sure that helps.

I've given up on regular doctors, I self medicate now. With all the information on the internet, I can find, diagnose and treat my own ailments, aside from major trauma of course. I'm using vitamins and herbal supplements now and feeling a lot better too.

Back pain is very hard to prove if you are having it or not. I suffer from degenerative disk disease which I've had since I was 18. This stopped me from playing basketball for a division 2 school. I'm unable to take pills because I had open heart surgery when i was 2. I'm missing a heart value that controls the flow of blood through the body. For this reason I can't take pills. I black out when i take a vicodin 750mg and even with the 500mg pills. So i know what you are going through I'm sorry for all the problems.

P.S. Physical therapy, can work if you can get through the pain, I had it for 2 years and it did help. But Mary jane helps much better! Stops my back pain, and my leg twitches.

The friendly family doctor who lived down the street from you...is gone. It's all big corporate business now with the prescription drug companies sitting at the top dictating 'your' treatment plan and common practice. Pain management is one of their biggest money makers and one of the biggest reasons weed might never be legalized. Just imagine if everyone could self medicate with the greatest natural therapeutic drug, after growing it in their own homes. Their business would go straight to shit. But as we all know, money talks.

Specifically what type of pain do you feel and precdisely where is it? There are often things having absolutely nothing to do with your spine that create back pain you can mistake as spinal. For example kidney infection can cause severe back pain and it's often non specific enough that you can't tell if it's in the spine, or in the muscle next to it, or lungs, or organs.

Does you pain level change day to day for no apparent reason?

Do you truly have other fibro symptoms? Random stabbing/burning pains for absolutely no reason like a charlie horse with no visible sign the muscle is cramping or doing anytying. Pains in completely random areas of your body that can't be explained otherwise. Toothaches, jaw pain, teeth grinding, jaw can feel locked up, name every single symptom you have felt pain wise or otherwise, even things like IBS, and if it coincides with physical activity that makes it worse afterwords or better afterwards or if easting a fat or heavy meal gives pain or not eating at all relieves pain...

Dude I have been there and done that all, I have what they think is fibro and every other back problem under the sun, and on top of that I also had kidney problems but couldn't tell cause I was so used to having back pain and so used to ramdom pain I didn't even know when my system was failing.

If you tell a doctor you're an addict they'll never get past that also, just refuse the drugs but don't say why with the next doc.

We desperately need socialized medicine like other countries where a doctors pay is directly linked to how well he does and how healthy he keeps his patients. As it stands now there is ZERO incentive for them to do anything but throw drugs at the problem. Anyone that freaks at the sound of the word socialism and thinks it would be horrible needs to watch the documentary Sicko. Look at how much better every other country is over us, even some third world countries.

That's all they do too, they throw drugs at the problem.

Mine was throwing drugs at me and the drugs said to make sure to drink plenty of water. After some internet research I found out that fluoride in the water makes my condition worsen. No wonder I was getting worse not better.

yeah i just recently had bad encounters with docs. im a victim of a car accident and insurance has been dickin me around for months, i been fighting to get payed and they send a doc to my house then send me to another doc and they tell me just get some excersice and start working out u should make a full recovery, might i add its been 6 months and i have pain every day. not alot of pain lately cause i been sittin on my ass litteraly all day, but the days i go out and do shit like say walk 20minutes or longer im dying by the end of the day in alot of pain. avoid insurance doctors cause they only tell u what the insurance wants to hear. Hopefully my family doctor can support me with what i say. but i think hes a little scepticle of me too for some reason.

And don't let them trick you into the "non-narcotic" pain medicine approved for fibro called Lyrica. Non narcotic my ass.

Dont believe anything they say about "Fibromyalgia". They don't know shit.

My first diagnosis started with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, that was when I was 11 years old.

Over the years it has developed into "Fibromyalgia" and then over time into "Myofascial Pain Syndrome".

Pain was not a symptom of mine until I was about 16 years old, and doctors kept encouraging me to exercise as I was able to as long as I set aside several days to recover afterwords.

Now after years of destroying myself the pain has taken over every muscle in my body and I am desperately trying to undo the damage that I caused myself under the recommendation of my "Specialists".

The best thing you can do for pain is take care of your body. If you haven't looked into it, Myofascial pain is the cause of almost all pain in the body, and with appropriate body work (Myofascial release massage, rolfing, trigger point injections, and daily self massage) you can START to manage your pain.

Pain can be a run away train; Look into myofascial triggerpoints.
