why do you think it's a bad idea? I mean we should live in a community that is congruent with our life style, right? My thought is to have more social continuity in our local communities. Hell, we could all live in clear houses.
Some states issue concealed carry permits on what is known as a "may issue" basis. What that means is that it is up to the discretion of some person, usually the county sheriff or chief of police, whether to issue the permit. California is a "may issue" state. In practice, what happens is that only politically connected, wealthy people or chums of the sheriff get a permit. What you suggest is a version of "may issue".

It is a terrible system, and in my opinion it is unconstitutional. Would you be content to speak only after raising your hand and being granted permission? Would you think you had a first amendment right to "freedom of speech" if you had to be granted permission to speak, and if you had to keep your mouth shut if you weren't granted permission? Why should 2A be treated with less respect than 1A?

I don't understand why people are for nut jobs becoming heavily armed.
They already are. I believe in your right to arm yourself in any advantageous way you see fit in one of these nut jobs randomly crosses your path. Some of them even have scary looking guns. If only we could the crazies to use only cute guns it wouldn't be so bad.

Not what I said at all, learn to read. I was just pointing out that the term "incredibly powerful" was being used really loosely in a way that over sensationalized something. You're obviously just trolling this thread though, so why should you care?
I agree completely. When I read the "incredibly powerful" it immediately identified this person as someone who doesn't know a fucking thing about what he posts. You don't even have to go to the .50 cal, the 30/30 is about 20% more powerful.

Shoot 20 rounds through a M4 or AK47 and you'll be ready to shoot 80 more. I've let quite a few people shoot my 300 Win Mag without a recoil pad and most of them quit after 1-2 shots because their shoulders can't take it.

im confused if a knife is a powerful weapon and a .50cal is an incredibly powerful weapon where on the scale is an ak?

what if the "may-issue" was decided by your peers/neighbors and not the guy who has the monopoly on force?
And I would be content with the ability to switch classes or schools if I was not allowed to participate in a goal oriented manner- I mean why would i just shout something amongst other shouters if no one could hear what I had to say. Are you suggesting that our classrooms are indoctrinating unconstitutional behavior by having kids raise their hands to speak?

My bad. You fooled me. I thought you were a serious participant in the discussion.

but we still await your final decree on how successful one must become before we gain the right to defend ourselves.

since you have already established that "McDonald's Fry Makers" are ineligible for that privilege, we still need a lower limit on the self defense privilege.

a dollar ammount in income or investment, a minimum net worth, or perhaps a mandatory minimum education level will do.

after all, we need to know if we qualify, otherwise some who do qualify for self defense will not avail themselves of the privilege, or even worse, some who do NOT qualify might defend their otherwise useless lives in violation of your edict.
You're a stupid hick farmer. Sorry, bro, he gets to take your guns for the greater good.

I thought I was too.It read like a normal classroom scenario.
Screw the analogies.

The right to keep and bear arms is a fundamental right that all of us have simply because we are free people. None of us need the permission of our neighbors, or the sheriff, or the political officer to own and carry weapons. If you want to be a nice guy and knock on all of your neighbor's doors and ask permission to buy an AR15 that is your decision, go right ahead.

What do you think about leaving it up to your local community to decide weather, or not, you are fit to own a specific firearm? Like, a person seeking to purchase a specific kind of gun will have to acquire 10 signatures from his local community in order to do so?
Gun privileges by popularity? This hermit disapproves. cn

I certainly wouldn't call a knife a "powerful" weapon. "Effective" and "deadly" come to mind, but not powerful on any scale that includes firearms. I'd say an AK47 falls somewhere between a .17 and a 30/30, but I wouldn't presume to know exactly where.

Just another law abiding citizen exercising his 2nd Amendment right....

A Minnesota man has been arrested after allegedly pointing an AK-47 rifle at his daughter during an argument that stemmed from her getting two B's -- instead of straight A's, on her report card.

According to reports Bartashevitch recently purchased the gun because he was afraid that President Obama's push for gun control legislation would lead to a ban on those kinds of weapons.

I hate to say I told you so, but here's an earlier post from another thread on this subject when all this began.

And now there are truckloads of "assault rifles" in the hands of inexperienced chuckleheads and undiagnosed psychotics, that might not have been purchased without the zealots calling for a ban.
What you don't seem to grasp is the only thing that will come about from this latest push from the left is more of that which you say you despise. You are creating the dark reality you seek to avert. Stop the nonsense or own it.

Agreed, as none of the forementioned devices can do harm to a single thing unless a human is present to animate an inanimate object. None of them hold any power or ferocity just lying there. Add the weak link to the equation (HUMANS!!!) and now we have something that adds the power and ferocity.

Not the issue at all. Unless you are claiming that the unitelligent are mentally handicapped, which is so fucking egregious that I can't even assume that you'd make claim.

You picture me with a stiffy, K9? It's OK. You were born just the way God intended. You can't help what turns you on.
So when you used to get turned on by looking at men it was because they were gay? You finally solved the msytery as to why right wingers hate gay people yet so often find themselves in bathroom stalls with them.
