Fasting

Hi all

I was first introduced to the concept of fasting when i was 16, before that i thoughbt people only fasted as a political statment or act of desperate attention. It was done by the muslims in my school and i joined them in the rammadan fast, though not as strictly, id have breakfast and dinner and i did drink water during the day.

Anyways... Since having done it about once a month or so Ill do a couple of days of fasting where i probably go 12 or 14 hours without eating during the day and break the fast with easy things to digest as well as drinking water with sea salt.
I dont do much during those couple of days, mainly take the time to reflect and listen to chewns and maybe go for a walk. I always feel pretty fucking good after it like although its not like i follow a regular fasting schedule nor do i do it for a long period of time.

Anyone here fasts regularly? Anyone got any educated opinions on it?

Like you said break fast or breakfast the most important meal of the day. It don't matter if it is midnight or noon to breakfast but there is a window like you say when you can eat. On the contrast some people eat all day and look malnutrition and some obese. Its all about genetics. Lol

I've been slim all my life and most of my life I've had a lite breakfest-the most is an EggMcmuffin or hot cereal and that was more as a teenager. Now its a handful of grapes or berries and water....water is a must, I drink a 16 oz bottle of water or more by lunch time each day, even if that handful of fruit is all that I eat til lunch.

Now lunch time, that calls for a real sandwich and chips, plus a salad a bit later on...salads are a must each day,

Then its pig out dinner time--eat til U are stuff but skip the sweets until evening or not even...then by 9--10 pm, its fruit only again...most days I drink only water, maybe tea, never coffee....Juice and soda I like but know its unhealthy so trying to not to have it..cut a real orange instead of pouring a glass

I wouldn't consider 12-14 hours fasting. Maybe 2 days or more but not less than 24 hours. I routinely go 14-18 hours without eating because one good meal a day suits me. Might slide in a pack of jerky from time to time.

Yet we feel hugger after 4 to 8 hours, maybe fasting is the wrong word for 13 hour breaks without food but its something

Quite a bit of study done about fasting. Religiously speaking it is important. It provides a cleansing of impurities from the body. Physically speaking it is also important it gives your body a chance to metabolize saturated fats. They say two days in a row with water and nothing more than soup, low cal soup or two days split up during the week if you cant hack it.

I semi-follow the Gracie Diet and they recommend a 24 hour fast, once a month. Drink nothing but water. Have supper and just go through til the next supper without eating. You are sleeping 8 of those hours away.
Its one part of the diet I dont stick to. I get all Joe Pesci when Im hungry

OP: look up "eat fast live longer" - a BBC documentary (by a british doctor Micheal Mosley) looking at intermittent fasting (or calorie restriction) and its effects on hormone levels and shit. Its proper science and quite interesting.
