Fan Not Bringing Heat Down

Without measuring it again my room is approx 7x8x8 , and if it matters, on the second story of my house. Since it's been hot out temps have been going all the way to 92 with lights on. (And I'm not even running the HPS yet)
Changed my lighting schedual to be off from 11am to 5pm , and that has brought it down to 82-84. (78-80 when lights are off). I don't have central air, and cannot run the A/C that's in there. The door is wide open for fresh air, and I have two oscillating fans on the floor. Last night installed a 250 cfm fan to help exhaust heat - it's in the back about a foot from the ceiling. However - looking today it appears the fan is not helping to cool the room at all.
A friend suggested it might have to do with pressure - so I tried it with the door shut, for 45 minutes - temps went up 4 degrees in that time - so no door shutting.
So my question is, why is the exhaust fan not bringing the temp down at all? Is it not big enough for the room?

An exhaust fan will bring temp down if the air that is being substituted is cooler. In your case it doesn't seem to be. So you have to find a way to get AC in there or that is not a suitable grow room in those outside temps.

Even with ambient air coming in, the temperature is going to average about 10 degrees hotter. 82 lights off 92 lights on isn't bad.

You need A/C if you want to cool that room further.

I agree with everyone else unfortunately:cry:

what i can say is, do you have anywhere to run some duct work? or flex dryer vent material? what I did was run a flex tube down through my floor into a cooler room to pull air from it. Because you will be pulling the air its a lot more forgiving with any bends you may have to do this. Brought my temps down 6degrees doing this.

Peace

There's an idea - my growroom is actually right above the room where my big house AC is! Awesome! Then I could shut n lock that door again yay! Thanks all!

Tweaking the light more might help some too. Say your peak temps outside are at 3-4pm so make that the midpoint of dark. So go lights out at 1-2 and back on at 7-8. The temps won't fluctuate as much but it generally will help keep temps down a few degrees.

Good point and in winter you can do similarly to keep nightime temps up.

thats not a bad temp man and if its hot outside then expect that and use to tep gauges 1 at the base of the pot and 1 about a little above the waist level to get acurate readings so that you know because my plant at the top fluxuates between 88-91 degrees with the lights on thats at waist level and below its between 75-80 lights on and and above lights off its 75 and bottom is 70

88-91 is way too warm there bud, the plants like 78is def not the 80s, that just makes light fluffy buds. She wants some weight as well.

this is true for overall temps NOT direct light temp. My cab at lower end of cab is 73 degrees. at center of cab its 78degrees and at top fluctuates from 82-88 degrees BUT thats in direct light 12" or less from the light itself. I believe this is what he was stating from his cab.

and your using HPS I'm betting, I cant wait to get mine

but her and I are both CFL grows currently, so when we go HPS there will def be a major issue, more so for her,
I'm lucky and have a good central ac unit so i can run that and keep it at 70 if I want.

Yep - that's why I definately gotta have an air cooled hood! lol I've already adjusted my lights to the peak temps here - 2pm - which is why the 11am - 5pm schedualed off. That did help, since I did that temps have been say an average of 83 lights on, and 78 lights off. I thought the fan wasn't big enough maybe, guess I expected more of a result - but I didn't realize the fresh air had to be significantly cooler for it to have an effect. (But hopefully it will once I cut a hole in the floor to the AC muaaaahhaaaahaaaa) Mostly I just want to bring the temps down another 5 degrees or so, and be able to lock that door.:peace:

Oh and good point guys, my temp/humidity gage is actually eye level with me, not the plants - so it might be a bit cooler down there than I think - I'll have to get another one.

Temps are always different throughout, I dont't sweat it and I keep mine on the wall nearest my flower rack so I know the warmest est temp.
