Extension Cord Question!

I want to use an extention cord to plug into another room with a different breaker so my shit don't trip.
Anyways I'll be getting a 10 Gauge extension cord(Heavy Duty).
It can take 1800 Watts and 15 Amps. 125Volt.

I'll be hooking up a 400 Watt Mh(460 Watts)
6 inch inline fan (130 Watts)
And couple other bullshit.. I'll be using around *800* or less watts overall on the cord.
It's going to be on 18/6 ofcourse.. Can it take it? Will my shit burn down? I want to use the cord as my MAIN power source.. Lets say 6 months - a year.
DONT want an electrician coming in and hooking up some more shit. I want too Nigger-Rig this shit.

Will this be suffiecient???

Ur good, u would have been good with 12ga. maybe even 14ga. By rule of thumb as a guy who was a carpenter for 25 years. Ur problem is distance. So buy the distance you need. Try not to have a cord longer than 25'. So a 12ga. 15' cord is perfect. Electricity has a problem with distance.

To say "Afro engineered" would be a little more polite, but still not nice.
As far as wattage, you're below what your cord is rated at, but I think if you look at your amperage that will be used, you're going to be close, if not over.
My vote, NO.

set up a 120a breaker in room...

ass as many socket as you want manually. you do it all yoursefl if you have the breaker set up// get single phase..

The cords max amp is 15 Amps...
The Amps Ill be using is 800...
V x A = W

120 x ? = 800

850/120 = 7 Amps.
Less then half.. Explain?

ohms law . you'll be fine 800 watts / 120 v = 6.66666667 amps
. just make sure you have a tight outlet if you know what i mean. haha

I ran 2 ballast 1000w ballasts on separate 25' 16 guage extentions cords for over 6 months with no issues.
I wouldnt advise that! what your doing i wouldnt think twice.

Joeyjoejoe is correct, use ohms law. You also have to factor in a few more variables as well. For instance, what else running off or that circuit that the ext. cord is plugged into, what size is the breaker that is supplying that circuit. In my state, even though you have a 15 amp breaker you want to leave n 18% buffer between the the rated breaker and the load on that circuit. On a 15 amp circuit that is 2.7 amps which leaves you with 12.3 amps to work with. I personally would not use an ext. cord due the fact that you lose amperage over the length of the cord.
Note: this coming from a licensed electrician.

Another thought and possibility for you .. I would just buy a extension cord for the hood . I have a 1000 Lumatek Ballast running a 25 ft ignition cord in order to use the 20 amp on the opposite side of the house .. Works well and no worries .. I have seen a 12 gauge extension cord get very hot due to a 1000 watt ballast draw ... Sooner or later it would have given out and set fire , I set up this person with a 25 factory made long range ingnitor as well and problem solved .. Some Ballast manufactures state that there hoods can be ran up to 65 ft from Ballast..

I am using a 25' 12ga cord. I am running a 1000w and an inline 6" inline fan on that one cord. Yea you are still over kill. Plug everything in. Feel the middle of the cord. If it is warm ur fine, if u feel nothing-great, if it is hot. Ur cord is no good. Distance is your enemy when it comes to electricity. The farther the electricity runs the weaker it gets. If you buy a 100' cord and then try and run a shit load, you will definitely want 10ga. As a framer I buy 12ga. I live in Seattle and I work in the rain. I have stood in a puddle and touched an electrical cord, hurts. LOL

Here's the big question homey? You got a fire extinguisher next to ur grow? I have one under my sink in my kitchen and one hangin next to my grow room. You are fine with what you are using. Happy growin hope to see some fat nugz. Peace out!

Yea, u risked death every day. Man, do u have children where u grow. I would say never use less than 12ga. If u go the 10ga. route, you will have a durable cord for 15-20years. Being a framer I buy a lot of cords, my business is tough on tools. Actually the dweebs I hire are tough on my tools. My rule of thoumb when comes to supplying power to a ballast is Distance. The guy who said he runs his hood 65'. I wanna know what the cord cost for that hood? I am in my garage with both my ballst 1000 and 600. I have had 1000, 600, 400, and a 250 all running at the same time, all off the same 20amp breaker. Yes, it gave me problems. Problem was I had no other breaker. Then I had my in law make me a whole new outlet in the garage. Now I run a 1000 and 600 off the same breaker, plus several fans. My house was wired in the 60's, and for some reason I have 2 breaker panels. My brother in law is a licensed electrician and it puzzles him. Of course, a licensed electrician in Wa. state is $75/hr, unless ur family!
