exausting 2x2x4 tent with 100cfm 4" booster fan.....

I am trying to use a 12watt booster fan for moving air longer distance, to exaust a small tent...2x2x4. Fan claims 100cfm. Shouldnt that be sufficient, to move the air and keep temps down in that size of a tent? Im not using carbon filter, just straight to the exaust vent. Gonna be running a 340watt led in there.

The thing about booster fans is they are just that, they are made to increase airflow thru long runs of ducting which slows air flow. Some of those fans have two ratings, i use a 6" booster fan rated 250cfm if used as a booster fan with another inline fan but it only moves something like 85 cfm as a standalone fan. This fan would not work to cool hid lighting or in a small space. It does however work for air exchange if there is no need to cool your grow room, like if using a good led light that doesnt heat the area. That being said, your fan might work, i would have recommended the 6" fan over the 4". Good luck.

the tent had a 4" inch opening, but you are right man, i could still go with the 6 because they have them as well, just gotta exchange it. i can get a flange or something right?

you need to do a trial run with your set up
without knowing what your intake air temps are, your not going to know

I used to grow in a loft and in the winter I had the exhaust fan on low and the intake fan off and my 600w hps lights on, the temps dropped to 20c

but in the summer both fans on full power and my temps hit 35c with the lights off

I have the cheap 4 inch and the cheap 6 inch. Get the six with a reducer, moves way more air. That said, even the cheapo six on filter wasn't enough to cool my 400 watter in a cool tube. I had to buy a real fan and if you have the money, I highly recommend going that route as those booster suck.

Led are you using, 340 watts led is usually around 180 watts actual pull. And you shouldn't have any problems keeping heat down with any fan unless you're in the middle of the desert as long as you've got one. I have a tent about that size i run without any fans except a tiny circulation fan running without any issues.

What Led are you using
Using a chinese unit i found on ebay. Gona put two of em in there when i can afford it..

@FrostyPelican
Thanks man. Will do. Returning 4" today. I could blow more air from my crispified smoker lungs!!!
I also got this tent from ebay. Has a 6" hole directly on top... wat that for? Shit, it actually has like 5or 6 holes...wat all of em for? It dont have the standard hood vent type hole on top like most have. Probably because of the height, but i am a little confused.
I plan on running that 6" fan as outake, top left, but now im wondering if that 6" hole on top would work better...
Just looking for ideas to be effective...

The six inch hole at the top is where my exhaust fan pulls all the heat out of my tent. That is where you should be pulling air out. You should be fine, your light is only going to pull half of what it's rate at. In a 2x2 you shouldn't need more than 120-200 watts of actual pull led. I think this is my 18"x36" tent with a 300 watt vipar, the crush pull is 185watts and it does way more than enough for that space.

two holes at the top sides of a tent could be for an air cooled hood, so the air is pulled in one side of the tent through the hood and out the other side, could remove 50% of the heat with this setup

you would also need a intake hole/fan to blow cool air in the room (bottom of the tent)
and the hot air would leave the top of the tent (as heat will rise to the top of the tent ), as most growers use a carbon filter, you need a vacuum to stop any Oder getting out your tent so you need a more powerful fan than the intake fan

something like 5" fan in and 6" fan out

well, so i got a 6" fan on way, so shouldnt just out take thru the 6" chimney hole be enough? i never used intake on any of the little grow boxes ive built. i should be fine, right?

my tent dont have them, perhaps because of the low height...it'd be overkill

cool, i was wondering if i'll need any side lighting, cree leds or something, my led puts out aprx180actual watts

Always do dry runs with lights and fans on and everything before you put plants in the area. It gives you a minute to compose yourself and deal with any temperature or ventilation issues.
I did this and I'm glad i did..found some things to improve on. One thing i didn't think about..once you put plants and water in your temps and humidity will go up a little. i was around 72F and 50% rh on the dry run in my veg room, now that i have plants in there, and i added a T8 mother light a few weeks ago, I'm running 80F and 60%RH, my flower room stays a consistent 75F and 55%RH.

Be careful venting out a chimney if it's used for house heating exhaust. It really shouldn't be done because it can allow exhaust gasses to back flow into the house. If you are going to do it put a back flow preventer in line.
