They are there as nutrient storage. If the plant didnt think it needed the nutrient stored away... then it wouldnt of ever grown that leaf.

Thats my phylosophy

A plant must have leaves to manufacture food, rather in the same way you need a mouth and a gut. Leave the leaves.

Sorry just a funny question but maybe you dont know. The leaves should stay on, they are what provide the energy for the buds to grow. Unless you have really big plants that aren't getting light to the bottom buds, then you could trim em a little since they really arent doing anything. But if you havent grown before, later on in flower, you will notice that the buds grow near fan leaves. Where the light is most concentrated will be where the biggest buds usually, if they werent there, those same buds would grow as big.

that is how buds grow my man, they use photosynthesis to use/convert the nutrients that they need. hope you didnt go chop chop crazy:blsmoke:

I never cut off any leaves.

#1 they store nutes, water in the leaves like has been mentioned
#2 They take in sunlight/growlight through the leaves.

Dont they teach photosynthesis in schools anymore? These questions are beyond basic, you dont even have to had grown marijuana before to know this stuff. Just payed attention in 5th grade Science class.

Sorry BUT they are WRONG!
You only cut off fan leaves if they are dying and turning yellow otherwise...keep them on.

If they are too big and in the way for light to penetrate you can tie them loosely with twist ties :)

In all seriousness, I wouldnt cut the leaves off unless they looked like they were about dead anyway or were covering a bud site during flowering, and even then you can just push it under the bud site. Leaves are good, you will see at the end of flowering and you start to flush, the leaves will start turning yellow, the buds are sucking up the remaining nutes from them and they are dieing off. Just like a tree in the fall.
