Electrical question

ok, so i have a 1000 watt air cooled hood with a mag ballast and i want to know if there's a way i can use a 400 watt e-ballast with that hood/light socket instead of the 1000 watt only because my circuit breaker starts making noise when i plug in the 1000 watt :-o

does this mean i would have to splice wires together?
can i even use the socket that was intended for a mag ballast with an e-ballast?

so basically i just want to convert my 1000 watt light to a 400 watt light, how should i go about doing this?

hopefully i'll hear from ppl with electrical experience

Pretty sure you can't.

And are you SURE the noise is coming from the breaker? If so, I'd replace that breaker.

A 1000 watt light should draw around 9 amps, which will leave you about 6 amps free on the circuit, even if you only have 15 amp breakers. If the circuit you are putting it on can't handle it, find an outlet not on that circuit and plug it in, even if you have to use an extension cord.

There is a BIG yield difference between 1000 and 400.

yea it's def the breaker, it's an older apt. i could try a dif outlet but i'm pretty sure all of the outlets in the room are on the same switch
and i'll be using 2 400 watts instead of the 1000 watt, to cover more space and save a little on electricity
is there any reason you can think of as to why i can't use a lower wattage ballast? you're prob right but i'd hate to buy another light

all lights over 250 watts use the same mogul socket so if you want to use the aircooled hood with a different ballast and bulb, you will be OK as long as the ballast matches the bulb.
