Electrical Question 9v/12v

Im trying to hook up a 80mm PC fan to my grow box but i am no electrical guru so if anyone could answer this simple question for me it would be great, i read somewhere that when hooking up a PC fan which is 12v power source if you hook it up to a 9v power cord it should run the fan a little slower and prolong the life of the fan and reduce noise, that i believe but im a little skeptical about mixing the 2 different volts will it burn out the AC adapter ? will there be a fire hazard seeming how the fan is 12v if anyone had some info on this topic i would be very gratefull thanks :leaf:

the fans will be fine, i've had both my cpu fans hardwired to their own 9v adapter they run just fine (although alittle slow :)

how much slower? a significant difference? i mean im looking for it to be a little slow i got 5 cubic feet inside the box with a fan that has 28cfm which should rotate the air atleast 3-4 times a minute through the box maybe i should stick with the 12v if it hinders it alot thanks though for the quick response much appreciated :leaf:

about 15-25% slower.

if you could afford another fan to add i would say go ahead and do it, but if you dont then try and get the most out of your pc fan. i have four going on now, two which i bought and two that i got from an old big printer and a pc. the way i have em hooked up is two fans per adapter that adds up to both of the fans milliamps and voltage as well...

well i dont think i need more fans if my calculations are correct circulating the air 3-4 times a minute should be plenty of air flow like i said its 5cubic feet with a fan that has approx. 28cfm so 28cfm divided by 5 = 5.3 times a minute then with cloth in front of the fan and passive intake holes would drop the air circ. a little less estimate about 3-4 times a minute i think thats enough unless im not calculating correctly but thanks for the input i do appreciate it :leaf:
