I wonder if they paid the bill. Dont get me wrong Directing electricity directly from the poles is retarded enough.

A tip to the police about excessive power usage led Portland, Oregon authorities to break up a large drug-trafficking ring that used several residences and one business throughout the metro area. Police seized about $3 million worth of marijuana.

Of course they were going to get caught... they were stealing power.

That article is pretty stupid though.

This is an important lesson for anyone looking to grow illegally indoors. Good indoor growing requires excessive lighting and air circulation

Excessive lighting and air? I guess for that big of a grow op... stuff like this discourages people looking to grow for personal use.

I agree with you on all accounts. I was just wondering if they paid there bill on time and if they didn't if that lead to the on going investigation that got them popped. The article states " A tip to the police about excessive power usage" (420times.com) Was the tip supplied to the police because they didnt pay there bill or was it actually just because they were using electricity excessively.

Nope a concerned citizen called the power company about the direct connect to the pole and the hydro company let the cops know who followed everyone and than busted them. Stupid mistakes, when will people learn, pay for your hydro, were in business to make money, pay your bills and we will leave you alone. By the way in some places it's a bigger crime to steal electricity than grow pot.

Must have been written by the cops PR or drug squad.

In canada, even if they pay the bill, they gonna tell the police if the house get a annormal power conso.

so, if you get a bill of 5000$/year of electricity and the houses right after you get like 1700/2000...... oups

This is a common misconception, from personal experience it is bullshit. High power bills are not just a sign of a grow op. My buddy had a machine shop in his garage with a lathe, surface grinder, welder and a bunch of other shit and his electrical bill was double mine. I was running enough power that if someone was watching the bills I would have been busted. Pay your bills on time and never ever steal power. High power bills alone does not give the police enough to bust down your door.

i disagreed, since he have a garage and he could possible take all the juice he take its a normal consomation (since he run a machine shop)
i see every 3-4 month here in my city a dude running 10 1kw light in is basement and they get busted 1 time of 2 about electricity consumption. a house its not supposed to have a 6000/year electricity bill. believe me.

I ran 8x1000 W lights for quite a while, plus pumps, 400W exhaust running extensively. Never had an issue. Simply because I paid my bills on time.

And for years before that I ran anywhere from 3-400W to 3-1000W plus peripherals, in various different houses, with and without garages with lots of power tools, bandsaws etc.

One of my buddies melted the power meter on the side of his house (14 x 1000W), was confronted by the hydro (electricity) meter guy, and the guy advised him to move after he was done this crop....lol...but he still replaced the meter for them so they ended up being able to finish. He told them if they pay for the replacement, he would make up a reason to why it happened.....obviously pocketed the cash himself. But still, pretty cool.

It was. All I did for about 2 years.

Just recently got off probation for more serious charges, so I am in a suspended state right now. But I have the itch again.
