Hey guys, I just moved in an apartment and my bill is around $40-$50.. If I use two 1000w what can I expect my bill to to jump up to? And Will it be to suspicious if I ran 2 1000W?

One 1000 watt light uses 1 Kwh so at 29 cents it would cost 29 cents per hour. But that rate seems high to me. I pay 7 cents per Kwh. I would say you would pay 3 cents per hour for a 1000 light.

Check your bill and see how much power you're currently using, then figure 24 KW per day (Flowering) for 30 days, which is 720 KW total. If you're currently using that much power without the 1KW lights, you'll basically double your bill.

I'd say if you're in an apartment and you're not running an ac unit, your bill is going to be suspiciously high and you might get noticed.

I pay 9 cents per kwh, run a little over 2K watts in lights, in a house I live alone at. Bill is around $200 a month.

I would say that your bill will go up about $100 per month, depending on what you pay per kwh. So in your case your bill would probably triple.

I think the power usage will draw some attention if you pay the landlord directly, rather than the utility company. The utility company could really give 2 shits about usage, unless you are talking $ 1000 plus, and they were asked to monitor excessive power consumption by the cops. I have been running during the winter for years now, and the fluctuation is huge. I run almost 3000 watts in the winter, which is 3 times my summer usage, never had an issue.. I end up paying around $350 in the winter and $125 average in the summer, so don't worry about it, unless you pay the landloard. But then again, he might smoke and give you a break on the rent. Peace out

An average space heater is like 1k-1500 watts

A 5k BTU window air conditioner uses roughly 5 amps (500 watts or so).

Dishwashers use a lot of power, and are used in different frequencies by different people, as well as hair dryers, curling irons, clothes irons, washer/dryer, all kinds of stuff.

Swap every normal bulb in your place to LED or at least CFL if you haven't already. That's just smart anyway. Be energy wise and don't splurge. Not to avoid detection, but more to keep your bill low.

Don't sweat energy use suspicion unless you're doing something ridiculous. 1kw is not ridiculous.

Back to your bill, a 1kw light will use 1kw for every hour it's on, no? So as was said, your cost per kwh (mine is about 7 cents) X hours of the day your light will be on X days in billing cycle (60 days for me).

So for me, $.07 X 12 X 60 = About $50/period for one 1kw light to run 12hrs/day

That's my understanding of the bill anyway. I don't analyze it much, I just pay it.
