I don't know anything about electricity other than if the breaker has to much electricity it switches off, then you go switch it back on.

Will I have problems trying to figure out how to wire 5,000 W for my grow room.

does anyone know how to do this or what it takes?

thank you:joint:

divide your watts by voltage and make sure you don't go over what you breaker is

Example 5000w / 120v 41.6 amps so you would need 3 20a breakers to be safe

hope that helps

No trying to be rude at all. But 20 would probaly not be enough. 1000w lights draw about 9 amps. 2 of those one one circuit would be 18. Plus the extra load if they both fire at the same time. Pushing the limits. I think 25 would be much better, time three. Plus an added 20 or 25 for cooling fans ect.... Also use nothing less than 10gauge wire for these circuits. HID lighting and all that goes with them is a strong constant draw. Better safe than getting a bill from your local fire dept.

And gauge, 14 is smaller than 12, 12 smaller than 10. As the number goes down the wire gets heavier. Make sense?

Don't take this the wrong way. I'm not trying to be a jerk, just wanted to say that if you don't know anything about electrical wiring and your'e building a grow room using that much juice, you'll probably want to bring someone in that knows what they're doing if at all possible. Trying to stay discrete, you could even have an electrician come in and install the sub panel in the room for you. He doesn't need to know what it's for and I'm sure you could come up with a million reasons.

1 15 amp breaker is aloud 12 components (12 plugs, 12 light 12 whatever) try not to put everything on one althought the circuit can hold 12 components ya never want them all running at the same time.....also make sure your panel is rated for the amount of power you will be using....i agree too use higher gauge wire too 12awg 10 awg cause the wires most likely are gonna be continuous loads like fans and all that ..best bet get 1- 2 pull 30 amp breaker but wit the 2 pull yull havta get 3 conductor cable carry heavier loads for more equipment.
