Egg trays

Any one ever thort of Ripping up egg cartons and using it as a top dress so the medium doesn’t dry out as quickly hmmmmmm , kinda like a wood chip mulch still
All organic and the worms love to much on wet egg boxes so it will hold some moisture and double as a top dress

You can shade the medium to slow down evaporation from the lights. Not sure about egg cartons.

I feel egg cartons ripped up would be like a hay or wood chip style top dress after the ewc

I would use bokashi over this. But it might work. I might worry about inks in the printing on the cartons though.

On the egg trays we have here there aren’t any ink just looks like paper mache really very clean

Heck you might be able to get away with shredding the egg cartons and inoculating them with some em1 to make a egg carton bokashi hybrid! But I am not sure what nutritional value for the microbial ans fungal life that the cartons would have.

Israel Health Ministry, Australia Department of Health and Human Services as well as USDA recommend against reuse as they can harbor salmonella bacteria. Recycle them. There are better things to use as mulch.

I use a mulch with outdoor veggies and fruit but I'm not going to promote mold and mildew with my indoor cannabis grows.
I've got a 20" Lasko Max-Performance fan blowing on them as I type. Grower preference. Good luck with the egg cartons.
If I cannot help a grower, I will not hinder him.

I would be afraid of mildew due to the material. I'd rather rice hulls or actual hay.

I agree it’s probably not the best thing to use as mulch but my worms seem to love recycled egg crates. I just throw em in the bin & they disappear.
