Effects of vegging under flower/red light.

Hi all,

I'm waiting for my ww to finish and I was thinking on the right time to start a couple more seedlings to get ready, one of the advantages of autos was that I could do so when I had regular lights.

Now I have LED and I'm wondering what the effects could be for vegging a couple of weeks (2-3) from seddling under the red/bloom spectrum?

I read somewhere that the plant will stretch, is that so? Has anyone do so and seen a difference?

Yes, if you veg with a red/bloom led light, you will get some very stretchy seedlings. Also, the heavy red spectrum during the seedling phase will result in an abundance of male plants.
My advice, pick up some 5000K CFL, or led, bulbs, on the cheap, and veg with those.

I'm going to call you out on that one. The part in bold is b.s. The rest is spot on.

Too much red during veg will increase the male population, just like too much blue during veg will increase the female population. I've posted my own findings on this subject multiple times before, based off of several different grows, with several different spectrums, and lights.

I can attest to that. I've done so much experimenting over the years. I spent 4 years alone playing with different spectrums each batch. Dominant red spectrums will induce males. A lot of.people say high heat will induce males. That ones not true. I get more females than males at higher temps. At lower temps its 50/50

seedlings / young plants are unisex until they decide. They can go one way or the other . Fems can go hermie very easily because they lack stress recovery traits and recessive traits that come from the male

I only use hps, i realize thats not what your talking about. But my point being that i use the flower spectrum from germ to harvest with no ill effects...ive also ran mh all the way through, didnt care for the bushier structure lower yield and scragglier lower bud sites
I do mostly the same thing, I just add a touch of MH into the mix during veg. Works great!

It depends on how red they are, and perhaps more importaintly how much light you're providing. I know from experience a 3000K LED lamp will produce nice bushy plants, as long as the intensity is good.

Blue and red light have two different types of growth blue influences leaf growth resulting in bushier plants red light give more internode inlongation it does this to get the flowers up to the top of the plant to attract pollenators weather wind or insect the spectrums aren't about intensity but the wavelength of the light and how it reacts with the plant.. With this the theory being with both lights in veg you get both types of growth as far as male / female it's about genotype

Show us an experiment where 630nm or 660nm was added and the plant ended up greater inter-node length than without the red. Red promotes short internodal length. Show me a side to side where the plants look stretched out under a pink tinge. It's always the opposite problem with red.

People confuse lower color temperature with "more red" all the time. More red will lower the color temperature, but lowering the color temperature could mean adding yellow, or removing green. That doesn't make it "more red", it makes it "warmer". Color temperature is sort of a bullshit rating to begin with when it comes to lighting plants.

From what I understand, blue inhibits the stretch from a low %Pfr, but %Pfr is the main mechanism driving stretch.

red light promotes shorter node spacing during veg. But stretch during flower . Blue light does the opposite. Promotes stretch during veg and shorter node spacing during flower
