Ebb & Flow SOG Setup

GOING HYDRO FINALLY. AND WANT SOG

Hey guys. I am on my second harvest coming up using coco/soil mix in pots on an old rug feeding by hand.

I have chosen to either build or buy a setup. My space is 2'X4'X4.5'. Currently using a 400 HPS for this flower only room. I am trying to maximizes my yields with the space that I have and expand later.

I also have a clone/veg room but its out in the open using a GrowBright 2 Foot 8 Lamp High Output T5 with all Veg bulbs. I have the flower bulbs too and will soon mix them in.

I found a tray that is and exact fit.

24" x 44" Flood Tray (white) | Trays

Now from my researching, I need a res of about 20 gallons. I might have not done the math right, but here it is...

((2X12)X(4X12)X4)X.0043=19.81 gallons

But the res I found on Hydroponics | Hydroponic Supplies as in this one

20 Gallon Multi-Res Bottom | Reservoirs

Measures 20" x 26" x 12" and the tray is 24"X44" so IM not sure how they will stack. Can anyone help me size the parts up?

Also was thinking about getting a 600W and possible down the road getting the auto light rail for larger harvests. And if I get the 600 will most likely add a cool tube reflector, and replace my 4" inline with a six.

Currently have a 4"inline bringing fresh air from out side, and another on the top connected to the 400 and y splitter to the other upper area to suck out the hot air. I need some advice on improving my setup, for my new beans. I want the best for them.

Anyways, lets just start out with this, here is a current pic of my flower room and what I am working with.

I forgot to mention, since currently growing on ground, the ebb and flow will stack up higher, and I have a height of 4.5 feet. So I want to replace my 400 with bulb and socket and cool relfector. Should give me a few more inches higher then the all in one 400w unit.

thats a decent setup but you can make your own for much much cheaper .
just go to your local hydro shop or hardware store . lawn and garden center and find a proper tray that fits your needs .
you can use rubbermaid storage bins for your res and the poly line can be had in most hardware stores for sprinkler setups
a very nice ebb & flow can be had for around 150.00 USD . forget buying a premaid system for 250.00 dollars

Thanks for the tips. I def want to build my own. I just want to get some ideas and sizes and prices put together. I would like to get this setup up and running in 2 months. So not too much in a hurry, and 150 is about all I have right now. So I think getting a plastic molded tray at the right size first is my start. Keep the advice coming and thanks for stopping by and putting your 2cents

yep yep the right size tray for your op is the best place to start
then get a stand that fits it so you know how much room under it you have for your rez. which can be had plenty cheap enough like i said there are almost every size and shape rubbermade bins available. and then pick up your pump and plumbing along the way.
i would aslo recommend you read this https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/94811-al-b-faqt.html
and this https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/6592-get-harvest-every-2-weeks.html and then this https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/15030-batch-clones-rockwool.html
and then ask any specific questions you have in the Al B. Faqt thread, Al B. is one of the best ebb & flow growers as far as getting excellent advice to the masses here on RUI and his answers will definatly get you going in the right direction.
PS his ebb & flow tables are do it yourself units as well

This is about as good as I can draw it out. This will be my new Ebb & Flow setup with SOG. Now I need to build it. Will slowly update as I get the parts.

Interesting. Would like to see someone try it out. I hope the root system does not clog it though.

Never thought about that. Maybe keep em small, or replace the 2L bottles. Maybe use 3. I don't know if they would work, but they have those big 5 gallon water containers for those water machines, i guess you could use those, but you'd need like a huge water tank.

finally pulled the trigger and bought a 2'x4' ebb and flow full setup for $200 bucks! And can't wait to build and use it!

you can have mine lol. I built it and it worked fine but i realised as a personal choice that i want to be more in control of plants. I want to be able to move them around if i want and also when i swap out males not have the previous pots just empty. So about 2 weeks into it i swapped it out for a ebb flow tray system. However the 2 liter plant thing is awesome. If i were you i would buy a 3x3 or a 4x4 tray and just put it on 1 or 2 18 gallon rubbermads. Keep the res water in on or the only one and you are fine. Dont use lids and every 2 weeks you can easily get res maintenace done.. I got a hd mortar tray so far sitting on a 18 gallon reservoir with no lid. I put standard ebb fittings in the tray. I use 4 inch rw blocks. I got 12 plants. I upgrading to 4x4 i think. Also 600. Gl/

I have an almost identical setup. I think your reservoir might be too small. The thing is it sounds like your tray is bigger than your reservoir! That wont work. You need to fill and drain your tray with the water in the reservoir. When some of the water in your reservoir is evaporated you still want to be able to fill and drain your tray.

I would go with a panda reservoir and then if you can not afford more make some trays with plastic tubs, but if you have the money a proper tray is worth the money.

My setup was purchased from horticlturesource.com. I recommend it:

GHBB® PANDA RESERVOIR BOTTOM 40 GAL - 47.5" X 23.75" X
12.25"(qty: 1)
GHBB® PANDA RESERVOIR LID 40 GAL (NO HOLES) - 48" X 24" X
12.5"(qty: 1)
BOTANICARE® - WHITE GROW TRAY - HIGH IMPACT ABS PLASTIC -
(FOR TURBOGARDEN) - 36" X 22" X 7"(qty: 1)

My first setup was totally made out of cheep plastic tubs it just did not work as well. So while my first setup was less than $200. I was ready to replace it with a $300 setup. So in the end I spent $500. I would have been better off trying to be a bit less home made and just spending the initial $300. At this point I am not looking to replace my tray/reservoir at all.

Hey man, that Botanicare 2 x 4 is actually about 26" x 46". Hope that doesn't cause you any problems.

If you're growing from clone and you want to get 2 weeks between res changes you could just fill the tray up with lava rock. They sell the stuff dirt cheap at Lowes/Home Depot.

i inclines with the go pro the first time guy. Spend the do for the professional shit as i would kill for a 3x3 botanicare tray. lol. They beautiful. Also my pump a 370 gph is too big. If i dont have the blovks positioned right i guess it keeps flooding. Othertime it levels off. very untrustworthy. I use 4inch blocks and i also thinking the american agri tray which is cheaper but only 4 ichs deep might be ok. Still i would feel safer 7 inchs. The bottoms of milk crates somewhoe cut off or something similiar lining the bottom of a homemde tray would make draing killer. Make sure your blovks or media doesnt sit in water.

Yea it will fit perfectly. Thanks for the rock idea. It's the 7" deep one. I plan on only using for flowering room. Pots will have perlite as growing medium. House of garden for nutes. I can place 24 pots. Which is way more then I need. The pump is 264gpm which should be plenty. Using tap water and nutes at half strenght. Will be up and running with my clippings by eom! Keep ya posted!

All I Need to do is setup the rest of equipment and get a ppm pen, and a fan or two! Oh and black and white film to block light and I'm done! :)
