I had an interesting conversation with a guy at the hydro store I go to. He runs an ebb and grow, as do I. He does something very different than I've ever heard of with the system, and I was wondering what peoples thoughts are.
What he does is takes a big air pump, like one you'd use for dwc, and runs a line and airstone into each bucket. He then mixes up his nutes, lets them sit, makes sure the ph stays stable, then fills the system. He then leaves it on fill all the time, and lets the water stay in the buckets, filled with hydroton, and lets the bubbles go to town. He said it has cut his veg time down by half, and his roots go even more crazy than usual, which is something...
The clear benefits are lots of oxygen, and cooler water in the buckets, as the air pump has a barb that allows you to put a line somewhere cool to push the air with, thus having nice cool water on the roots.
This guy is one of the Deathstar crew, and knows his shit. What confuses me, and I haven't had a chance to really sit down and talk to him, is it seems like it would be real hard to monitor the ec, and ph in the buckets, and we know that hydro mistakes happen fast. I guess you could just drain, and check, and refill.....
Has anyone tried anything like this? I'm considering tring it on my next turn, just to see. Maybe half of the room for a comparison. He uses Canna nutes, which I haven't tried yet, I use H & G, and am under the impression you're not supposed to use a bubbler, and the drip clean is pretty potent stuff.
