DWC VS. Bubblebonics who will win

i've been doing a study on DWC and bubblebonics started 11-5-11 and the dwc 11-4-11 awesome pictures to only a 10 days in and the bubblebonics is woping some dwc butt will keep up with posts

It's the same thing in regards that the roots are submerged in water.

It differs in that bubbleponics have a water pump in the bucket that draws water from the bucket through a number of small tubes that are positioned on top of the medium (like in a drip irrigation system) This alone gives you a roughly 10 day head start since you don't have to wait for the roots of the new plantings to reach the water level.

That is only to get the roots into the water. Most people remove the drippers after the roots hit the water..
Then both methods still use airstones
and function the same.
If you start seeds in a dome til they grow roots and move them into net pots then they even out the same time frame.

if you fill the rez up into the hydroton at first you dont need the tubes and water pump, i bought the same set up.

DWC and Bubbleponics are the same thing.. Nothing to compare
Bubbleponics you are supposed to top feed drip for the entire grow but people get temperature problems in their water due to the pump so they take the pump out and its basically DWC after that.

Ok. Well I'm with MJ on the raising water level to the hydroton and lowering it when the roots hit. Oh well!

Thats what I do. Without a water chiller the pump for the top drip will just warm the water and we all know warm water spells disaster in DWC grows.

I am a rookie with Bubbleponics and about to grow 5 White Rhino from Nirvana.
If the temperature is going to rise from the stone, how do you measure it and control it?
Also, I thought the bubbles were below the root mass as it develops and elongates down toward the water and nutes?

Bubbleponics can also use air to move the water up the feed tube like a Waterfarm. That is ideal since it solves the extra heat problem associated with a w/p. Roseman uses water pumps with great success, though, so either will work fine. In any form of DWC, success depends on the temps you can maintain in the room and in the res. If it was a RDWC, top feed by bleeding off a small amount of nutes from the main pump would work great!

I am very interested in this comparison. I would like to know how well the roots grow into the media as compared to straight DWC. The roots in DWC tend to run right past the hydroton in search of water/nutes leaving very little in the way of support for the plant. I am wondering if the added drip tube will cause the roots to be more entwined with the hydroton before they shoot out of the bottom. The added support would be nice. I also suspect the top feed will cause faster growth until roots hit the water. Another possible advantage would be less worry of saturating pucks or rockwool since the drippers do not saturate the center of the pot like submerging it does.

i am noticings fast and way better growth with the bubblebonics and yes your theory about the roots are true the roots in dwc and have alot more trouble finding there way to the water source the roots go wild with tthe bubble the roots went straight to the water and started rapid growth right away im also noticing that the dwc you have to start the water off in the basket but with bubble no you dont need to start the same as dwc so in your guys eyes you might think dwc is the same as bubble but in reality totally different and the cooling problem there is no problem having no problem with heat no build up of any algae no fungus nothing on the bubble though i have seen with the rapid growth the stems has trouble keeping up with the growth as you can see in the pictures so for the people that think there the same look again please and thank you for have intrust will keep you informed

First of all Bubbleponics is a form of DWC. Thus the same thing~

I started two grows similar to yours. I had 6 plants in the same bubbleponics setup (water feed lines from water pump to each netcup) and I had one plant in a DWC (5gal w/airstone). The plants in both systems did FINE.

The difference? Well I found the drip feed lead the main root right to the water. The root followed the same flow that the water did down around each hydroton piece till it got to the water. The DWC setup on the other hand... the roots are SHOOTING out of every direction from the hydroton... My thoughts are the roots expanded in every direction looking for water. This would mean more roots and more support. I wont ever use a water pump for feeder tubes again honestly. Its just a hassle to deal with the heat the pump putts out. xD

How deep do you run the water in the beginning and at what point do you lower the level? Are you starting the plants in something like rockwool or placing clones directly in hydroton? Any tips for getting more roots in the hydroton are much appreciated.

Ya like the man said, Bubbleponics IS DWC, so not totally different. Only difference is the added top feed. What res temps are you able to keep?

are you comparing systems, while growing seeds with them ? wouldn't it be better to grow clones, to rule out the genetic factor ?

i didnt start the water level at the hydroton i kept it about 2 inchs away from the baskets and had the pump sit for 5 mes ever hour now i change it to 10 minutes every hour the pump is on
