dwc system growing questions

when a plant in a dwc hydro system comes within a week or so of its flowering period before you harvest what should happen? do i need to change the reservoir to just plain water with no nutrients for the last week? should i just keep my nutrients going all the way until i chop them down?

also, when i put my plant in the hydroton rocks before the roots are poking down in the reservoir do i just water it with a spray bottle? what exactly is the procedure that you follow until your roots reach the water in the reservoir?

and last but not least, how often should i expect to have to refill the reservoir in say a 6 plant dwc system? small plants that is. anyone have any info on how much water plants suck up in a day?

1. You flush a week before with fresh RO water. Various companies make flushing products you can also use. I haven't ever used any.
2. I used 3x3RW blocks and i water them once a day until they show roots. I have my water level about an inch up on the netpot so it stays pretty moist.
3.I also change my res every 7-10 days with new RO water and nutes.

Hope this helps.

i agree with growbuds, i too flush every week or so, then change nutes to boom tille a week b4 harvest, then flush the hell out of em with ph'ed water.

Reverse Osmosis is a purification process you are basically left with pure water at 0 ppm (parts per million) you can use distilled water too, not sure what the ppm is on that.

What I did in seedling stage, was leave the water an inch below the pots...then used a Turkey baster to suck water from the res and watered that way...5 turkeybasters full per netpot/plant, 2x a day till they started poking roots through....Then just sit back and watch!! I agree 7-10 days between total nute and res change. I dont have RO water though. What I do is fill the bathtub up, let it sit for about 3 hours to leach the chlorine out (you can also put a bubble stone in there to aerate it) and I do all of my ph up/down there in the tub....it's also easier than trying to do it that way instead of per bubble bucket...Then I just dip my gallon jugs in to fill it up and pour/fill my res....the next to last gallon into the res gets all of my GEN HYDRO nutes added. The action of that last gallon of ph'd water going in mixes it up pretty well......
As for flushing....to each his own...I PLAN on a straight water flush the last week, and then emptying the res and let them "air up" the last day or two before harvest...I read somewhere (HT??) that the airing up/drying out produces an increase of either THC or resin production....the plant thinks its drying up and tries to protect itself by building resin in a last ditch effort.
