  • So I'm looking at making a purchase of nutes for my SCROG/DWC grow. Here's my set up and the list of nutes I was lookin at.

    4x4x6 (scrog grow)
    400cfm vortex fan
    6" aircooled hood
    Veg: 400w MH
    Flower: 400w HPS
    (2) 5-gal DWC buckets
    3" netpots
    rockwool cubes
    hydroton
    45w 53lpm air pump

    I was thinking:
    GH Flora Series 3-pk qts(Grow,Bloom,Micro)
    GH pH Up & Down
    Dutch Master Gold Zone

Is there anything I'm leaving out or dont need?

Ill just be leaving gallons of water out overnight (chloro evap.) for the water source.

Also, any recommendations for germing in DWC?

    Thanks everyone!

so i test ran my cab today to check temps, and after an hr of closed cab, and a 400w MH...i was happy to see my ambient temp was 68F. So I'm assuming my rez temps should be in the safe zone.

and got my ppm meter in and my tap is 40ppm...lucked out there. I should be good to roll with tap water left out over night right?

Ya I have the ph meter. The water is 8.0 which I believe pure water is around 7.0? And I retested water today and yup, 40ppm.

Ya I fig I would grab some cal mag. How do you know if you need it or not? Purely on meter reading? Or will plants show it?

Cal mag? How about that pH Down? Citric acid works great, is cheap, comes in powdered form for stable storage before prep. I run nothing but tap water and use it as my pH Up. Many experienced hydro growers use straight tap water, hardness permitting, and simply adjust the pH. Besides your Micro should have all the cal, mag, copper, iron etc it needs. Check the label. GH is awfully expensive stuff.

Oh yeah I pointed out the bit about the pH Down because all acids or buffers have a shelf life, especially once opened. Product stability is a question. A big bottle of pH Down could last in volume far longer than it is stable. Powdered citric acid stays stable if dry and can be mixed precisely in small batches.

Damn, wish I read your post before I ventured to the hydro store today. It was my first time there and I swear it was cheaper or equiv to online prices. I'm an avid online shopper and almost shit myself to know all the shipping I'd be saving plus their knowledge! I picked up:
rapid rooters
GH pH kit (up n down)
GH flora series (got 25% off for buying all 3!)
GH cal/mag
Rez cleanser (forgot name and I'm not home but they said its like DM gold zone)

I bought the micro bc of the deal, but it seems like many of you skip it entirely...?

Lastly, like the apprentice botanist I am, I forgot to calibrate my pH meter.
Once I did, my tap water is 7.1 and still 40ppm

don't skip the micro. i'd use all three since you have them, but in the future skipping the grow and using just micro and bloom can work very well.

Awesome. Thanks for the tips everyone! Ill be germing a Power Africa and a Sour Blueberry this weekend. Both fem. Is there really any sure fire way to germ these? It seems very debatable, maybe just pick what I think works for me?

Drop the seed directly into your rapid rooter. Keep moist - not wet. When it emerges put it under a low watt CFL immediately to prevent it stretching and laying over.

I use r/o water so I run GH CALiMAGic for the first couple weeks of feed then I stop until when and if she needs it. I only ran the grow during two weeks also
