DWC Root Slime Cure aka How to Breed Beneficial Microbes

Is there anywhere we can order all this stuff at once? I can only seem to find 1 or 2 things from each vendor and would prefer to just order it once.

where are you guys getting your tea ingredients?

I probably see a new strain every day I want to try haha. Its going to take a long time to fit them all in.
I havent seen anything from your journal in a long time, you still running the SoG or anything? What were your yeilds?

Howd those kens GDP seeds work out? Read something u germing all 10.

I hear ya im currently sitting on 48 fems and 22 different strains, no more orders for a while for me.

I got mine from my hydro store. Didn't stock ancient forest so I went with wiggle worms EWC or something like that. They didn't have ZHO so I went with great white. Had the aquashield though.

Check out hydroponics market an amazon dealer. I've gotten lots off of him and he most likely stocks all those ingredients. Customer service is shoddy. But I had no problem getting an exchange when I had issues with my ballast.

thats my problem too... i just went and picked up aquashield and a powder that must be equivalent to zho. worm castings they had only came in huge bags... is this totally necessary??

also the aquashield looked like it had a little mold or growth on the inside of it (against the walls). the bottle says it expires a year from ship date and there is a sticker on the top that says "4/2011"... hopefully thats they year it was shipped. hows your aquashield look?

mixed up the two ingredients i have with a little molasses. hopefully it works.

also i think i may have my ratios wrong... the powder im using is a dark color and a little less than 1 tablespoon into one gallon of water turned it a very dark color. I also added 10 ml of aquashield (that may or may not have gone bad, freshly bought though). i put a little bit of molasses in and in about 2 hours some sort of clear bubbles (slime?) were overflowing the gallon container. i dumped like half of it out and refilled with water, but there are still some bubbles in there. almost soapy looking bubbles. a similar bubble build up happened when i added way too much nirvana (organic flower booster) into a bucket once.

I had the same thing happen with the bubbles and the huge bag of EWC and no its not necessary, but I had no other option. The bubbles are fine as long as it doesn't smell bad you're good, its supposed to smell sorta earthy/mushroomy, if its bad it smells like crap I hear... I used 10ml per gal aquashield which was on the lower end of the range listed to use. And 1 tbsp is a lot of mycos. No wonder it turned brown haha. I think the recipe says 1tsp per 2 gal, a third of 1tbsp. But it also says you're going to be breeding them so it doesn't matter how much you start with. My great white came with a tiny scoop and I used about an 8th of the scoop. I gave it a little less molasses than recommended also. I really need to fully read this thread, on my to-do list.

Hopefully your water you put in is not chlorinated. I used spring water.

Oh and my Aquashield had a past due date also, must be production date, I hope lol. It had stuff floating around in it, probably normal. Nothing about a composting agent sounds clean

Firsttimeare-

I quit the SOG. I got right around a lb off my 600, but I think more could be done when dialed in. I would honestly veg them even bigger if I were to do it again.

Nice man, I saw on SG's journal. I'm glad it all turned out well for you, hows it treating ya? Did you do a 2 week veg? That's not bad though for a first SoG. Its a little less than a half oz per plant, but you could definitely dial it in more, maybe even with a better strain suited for that style.

I can't wait to start mine. Probably another 3-6 months or less. Digging the DWC right now.

It was like 12ish days iirc, and like 9-12" tall, I would take them more like 15-17" if I were to do it again. I bet 1.5lbs could happen honestly. Some of them were more like 6" when flowered honestly. 1oz should be easy per plant and that was 36plants. You could seriously get like 2lbs maybe... Take in mind that was my first real sog doing hydro, my second hydro grow, and I got 16oz off a 600.

I did cover this somewhere but the short of it is...

Great White is identical to mycogrow soluble, indeed they come from the same lab. The only difference is Great White has a 'bio-package' or IOW food. This is intended to give the microbes a jump start. We already supply molasses which is more than enough to get things started. In terms of diversity and quality, the two products are distinguished only by price. I have read that the lab these products come from has exceptional standards, right down to their shipping.

Mykos has worked for some, yet it contains only one type of microbe, which makes it less than ideal for our tea.

Floating stuff in aquashield is normal and the product is good for about one year after it goes on the shelf. (possibly longer if stored correctly) If you accidentally use some that is past expiration it probably wont do much harm, however mold is a sign of contamination, not expiration, so throw that out or get a refund. IMO aquashield is a great product and anyone who wants to jump start the slime killing while their first batch of tea is brewing should add some to their res.

If you use all the ingredients we recommend you will have a great tea, but if you can only use one product, you will probably still have what it takes to kill slime. IMO mycogrow soluble is the most important and makes a fine tea by itself. You want to look for any product or combo of products which offer bacillus, trichoderma and myco's (mycorrhizae).

IMO Aqua-shield alone with some food is cheap and super effective in DWC.

I have a 100gl DWC system. Very good flow and air, water temp 67* to 69* and had some pyth or something else that was in the roots. Used H2O2 and zone and have no slyme but have dead looking roots that are not hardly taking up any nutes. We are in week 4 of flower. How much of the the tea should be used (have that brewing now) and should we be putting nutients in with the tea? How long to run tea and how should we follow up? Sorry if we have missed any info on this thread. Thanks loads for your help, MS

dont follow up with h2o2 haha. so i added the last of my overstrong tea to one of my buckets and i could see the myco powder collect at the bottom of the bucket (obviously i used way, way too much) two days later i was uncomfortable with the slime and brownness built up around my roots, which normally takes about a week and is fixed with h2o2. so i put a bit in last night. and this morning my roots are totally brown. ugh. im guessing the h2o2 killed all the myco and led to slime really fast. so i just changed the resout, soaked my roots in h2o2 solution and put them back in the bucket with new nutes, water, aquashield and mycos. hopefully the lingering h2o2 on the roots isn't strong enough to kill the new benes, which i didnt make into a tea, so im kinda regretting not rinsing the roots with pure water. oh well hopefully it works, i will know tomorrow.

on a more positive note, the roots in my other buckets exploded. like got way bigger way fast. i can tell because theyre all white and long root strands w/o alot of side branching coming off a rootball that doubled in size in the last week.one of my girls, who has had the best roots this whole time, has roots that will nearly fill the bucket if they keep growing at this rate. the clone that got some also has long stringy healthy roots now and is showing it up top. once again, thank you walt and saul

PERFECT RECIPE: I have AF, AQUASHIELD and ZHO. What amounts should I use for a 4 gallon mixture?? Sorry but its just confusing with so many different recipes I just want to make it right. My last round went really bad and the tea couldnt bring it back. I want to start it before it goes bad this time.

Im running a DFT system with 2 attached 50gal resis

Well if you multiply the directions listed by 2 you'd have your answer.

1/2-full scoop ZHO, 30-60ml aquashield and 4 handfuls of EWC per 4 gallons of water
