Arroz: For nutes in hydro, I'm a fan of Technaflora's, "Recipe for Success." If you use their whole program, it's complete, user friendly and I haven't had any of the problems you see these guys complaining about here. All you need is good water, a set of measuring spoons and something to check and adjust pH and ppms with.

As far as cleaning your reservoir, I use the same dish washing detergent my wife keeps under the sink, some soft brushes and sponges I've collected over the years and I give it a triple rinse like I did with my mess kit years ago. A friend of mine uses a 10% bleach solution. I think the important thing is that everything that goes into the reservoir get a thorough cleaning and rinse too. I hope that helps. Hank

I second the bleach and water, just start filling with water and add a splash of bleach. Let it soak for a bit then scrub with some paper towels, rinse well and dry with paper towels. I never have had issues with this method. I dont reuse air stones or air lines either but usually because I dont clean buckets out right away. As for the nutes I recommend just picking one and learning how to use them. If you got the mulah and dont mind buying additives then go with A/N or Canna otherwise if you want to do it on the cheap go with General Hydroponics. I would stick with the 2 parts and a bloom booster at a minimum.

Chlorine is used by commercial hydroponic greenhouses to treat and prevent root pathogens like pythium (root rot). The commercial product 'Pythoff' is nothing more than RO water with chlorine bleach added.

Homemade Pythoff
Use Clorox or some other pure bleach. Avoid synthetic or scented bleach. Add 100 ml of chlorine bleach to one gallon of distilled water. Use 3/4 of a cup of for each 50 gallons of solution the first time you use it, then every other day use a half cup. This will keep everything sterile and will oxidize any dead root material.

You can also add bleach directly to your reservoir. 1 teaspoon per 50 gallons of solution ever other day. If you add directly, be very careful on measurements. Bleach is a weak oxidizer compared to hydrogen peroxide, so it kills the bacteria without burning your roots. Hydrogen peroxide works well, but it is easy to burn the root system because it is such a strong oxidizer.

Hope that helps

For a stimulant, i recommend a caffeinated beverage. For the grower only ... not suitable for the plants. Plant "stimulants" are snake oil imo. cn

I use gh 3 part nutrients. Been using since 2005 although I am thinking of switching to other two parter. I'm getting tired of all the mixing. Stimulants? The only one I'm using is kool-bloom during flower. It seems to work well but really I got the same size buds using a lil molasses during the last few weeks of flower.
