DWC FAKE ROOT ROT-

Hey Guys - I have a couple most like super basic questions that the pro's probably know but seem weird to me.

1. DWC FAKE ROOT ROT- the nutes and aditives are often darker in color and the roots will turn the color of the nute mix! So if I mix up my typical 2-2.5 gallon nute mix w a bit of root additives (which are typically brown in color) and some other random nonsense thats probably doing nothing but makes us feel good haha - WHAT CAN WE DO ABOUT THE DISCOLORING OF ROOTS WHEN FEEDING GIRLS DARK COLORED NUTES?

2. When changing nute res - we take a plant thats sitting in 1-2 week old water, maybe longer and picking it up and placing this plant with a rootball thats covered in this old "filth" lol were legit bringing over the dirty water into our new clean res - ive tried this a few times and personally like it but i want to know what ya'll think:

When changing res - ill get a 8x4inch (or the smallest container i can get thatll support the plant) and just have clear water in it(RO) w a sprinkle of epsom and let it sit for like an hour with a couple ait stones in it to give it like a little cleansing lol is this horrible? good idea? or should we just be like nah fuck it be dirty and throw em in

I have only rinsed the roots when they look off or start to get a funny smell. The nutes I use are known to stain roots(gh trio). While we, as dwc, may not have the micro biome that soil growers do, we have something. I don't know what to call it, but I've noticed that hard rinses can stress the girl out, and be more damaging than if left alone. I typically just let them sit in a bin identical to their rez, but dry, while I wash her rez. Normally 10-15 minutes to drip and then into the new, refreshed rez.

You’re overthinking this, if there isn’t a problem, quit watching the wrong end of the plant and don’t wash the roots, if you have issues going on then washing with water won’t help anyways.

LMAO "you're watching the wrong end of the plant" -- said every root rot victim ever w a dead plant in their hands hahahahah

Simple,do not use or add any nutes that are dark coloured.

yo what nutes do you use that you can do that lol all micro's are dark red - all root enhancers are dark brown - half bloom boosters are dark brown - at least for GH and AN - those are the only two I use

yeh true - it drives my OCD NUTS when i see a fellow DWC guy raise his plant and see insanely white roots haha like bro do you even feed your plant?!

But wait bruh - you let her sit in an empty bucket while you do the change? I let her stay in her bucket and prepare a 2nd and do the swap - just pick up and put in the new one so shes only out of water for 2 seconds max - a dry drip helps you think? I would think that would stress em out more than sitting in clean fresh water w no nutes, no?

I can't say definitively. But my girls don't seem to object. I'll look up where I read that a short amount of time out of their solution can be beneficial, Rosenthal or Cervantes, I don't remember which. I have noticed less staining when I use around 3/4 strength, but if you are pushing nutes hard, staining is near guaranteed (at least with the GH trio)

Doesn't matter what so ever. Roots like air
and doesn't dry out in 2-3 minutes. I use a shop vac for single containers. If you want healthy white and clean root mass in DWC, use an oxidizer. I use regular bleach.

You must of missed the “if there isn’t a problem part” but that’s ok, do better next time.

Mine sit out of solution in a dry bucket for about 10-15 mins when im doing a rez change, nothing wrong with a brief period, but i have made the mistake of forgetting about one once, was in dry air for about 3 hours, the roots shrivelled up completely and became very fine like hair, but she survived.

Also if you are putting the roots in clean water that hasnt been PH adjusted you are absolutely shocking them every time you do that, as there is a dramatic PH change.
