DWC - Drip ring, is it needed?

Hi,
I just looked at some clones that have been in DWC 6" netpot for about 2weeks. I pulled out one of the plants and i can see roots growing down into the water, but one side of the cube the clone was in has small roots that are dead and nothing else from it.

I only watered them thro the stones until i see roots hit the water, then i stopped. I grew DWC once before and i had strong thick roots but only a couple. I never see lots and lots of roots coming from all out of every side of the netpot like i see around here.

Do i need a drip ring, would this solve the issue?

I don't clone, but on seeds a drip works real well, especially the first part.
The thing that made mine bust loose with roots was rapid start.
I started having roots coming from every direction, pretty white ones fish bone.
Good Luck & heavy yields to ya!

Put simply, there is absolutely no requirement for any form of top feeding/watering with DWC. Nothing more is needed than good bubbles.
