DWC done right the first time.... Hopefully

I will be keeping track here of what is happening in my 16 bucket DWC system. All comments and questions are welcome. There are seedlings in there right now that need to be sexed and I figured we could get the hang of it like this. image.jpg

It's a good time of year for dwc for most, I'm in the desert and have another 5 weeks till cooler temps. What's your feeding regiment ?

We are currently running RO, calmag, Rock Roots, and Ionic grow. Our ppm is currently just over 300 as we are trying to ramp it up slowly in order to avoid any problems with over fert. We run our water temp at 69-70 in order to accommodate the bennies that we maintain with a bio filter which has served us very well so far.

I recently experienced fox tailing on 3 same strain plants. I overferted it for sure. the leaves were the same color green after a 5 day flush. You live and you learn. Where did you get the airpump? I had a similar airpump and it was an issue keeping its metal housing cool. I'm watching this grow. I miss dwc. It was fantastic yields and growth.

Just pulling up a seat. I am in aero right now but have been wanting to check out DWC especially since I'd be able to grow plants that are 2 feet taller.

Yea it's got a learning curve for sure, an from what I can tell it never fails to require some intuition. Our system is a little different than most in that it actually pulls water through the outside rows of buckets and top feeds through a tube to the middle 8 buckets. There are stones in all the buckets and we didn't really do it like this intentionally other than using what we had laying around. We had some major issues with slime at first but after using some home brewed tea with local EWC and some great white it seems to be in the past hopefully. Chiller is key even if you aren't running cold temps because it allows control and prevents huge temp swings of the solution. It's gonna be a long haul and you will see me setting up a coco garden in another room as well. Lots of things will be happening. I'll put some pics up later to better explain what we it goin on. Good lookin out y'all.

So, here are the ladies today... Apparently they are sexed seeds, but perhaps could hermie? Idk I'm still thinking about what to do. image.jpg
I lowered the water level a couple days ago and while the room under the Pots started to bust out roots, there were some older ones that started to brown. All of them were above the water line so I assume it will have to establish itself a bit.
Here is the "T" that goes to the pump.

This is the drain back to the res from the center buckets. And the feed to the pump laid on top.

Here is the res and the bio bucket, I know it's kindof a mess but I will have to have priorities!

This is the feed line to the inner buckets that comes after the chiller. image.jpg

just got done reading voids thread and from what I gather having reflective material directly beneath your plants can harm them while in their smaller stages just something I noticed

Just a little update with a pic. Things are going well, but there does seem to be a deficiency of Cal i think. In this pic you can see the problem in the bottom left plant's bottom leaves. It appears in other ones as well and hopefully the now 200ppm of Calmag will help. Any input is welcome as usual. Root growth is picking up again after a bout with some dead looking roots above the water line. This seemed to coincide with Cal deficiency as well, so we shall see. image (2).jpeg

just make sure you keep it clean man. one goes they all go. looks awesome. the reflective material wont matter once the foliage grows. people just read shit and they think they know it all. the only problem ive had was using a dollar store reflective car window shade and it poisioned a plant. what are your res temps

Are you using R.O. water or tap water?

In my setup (Aero) I have been using Zone and Orca. My roots have never been healthier. I had some issues, especially with heat, once I added these it seemed to clean up any sludge and the roots started fishboning and turning a nice white. They are brown now but that is because of the nutes I use, floralicous plus is very dark and stain everything.

P.S. I use tap water and haven't had any need of CalMag since. Although my tap water is around 300 ppm. The last place I lived it was at like 650 ppms so I was forced to use R.O.

I am using RO. I have been using great white in a tea that I brew every week or so... It seems to keep the roots healthy and the sludge out. Our system is super clean and clear with no bad bacteria blooms. Water temps are at 68.

That sounds about perfect. Any root shots?
