Dutch Passion Durban Poison

This is a variation on the Durban Poison strain by Dutch Passion (feminized) which they list as Durban X Unknown Indica on their site. This was put on 12 hours March 03. 8 weeks flowering would have this done April 28.

For those interested and who may have missed it, there is more discussion from the talented and knowledgeable folks here on the variations of this "Dutchified" variety and of the non-hybridized landrace Durban strains at this recent thread : Best Durban Poison Seeds.

I've never grown this strain, so I am very curious to see what happens.

Week 1 Flowering Stage

Here is the mother plant ( vegged about a month maybe?) in coco/perlite on the day I switched to 12 hours. It will live the next few weeks being mercilessly moved around and tucked wherever I have the space at the moment until I find a permanent place for it, being just a "test" plant of sorts.

Here it is today after cutting some lower branches, shoots and leaves off, bending over the top branches ( topped a few weeks ago), and tucking some of the mid branches up the middle to make a flattish canopy. Very flexible branches, but I did break two.

She is getting really chunky

April 12 Lots of deep magenta and purple calyxes now, with some orange pistils coming in as well. Maybe 2 weeks to go.

i'm glad i have been researching anything durban poison before i pop some seeds because it led me here.

your room is beautiful. you got it set up right and the flowers show it!

in your opinion is the purpling coming from the unknown indica or the DurPo?

Hey thanks - just rebuilt the whole room last summer and then added a custom automated drain-to-waste-for-coco system that is working out really well. I'm brand new to the world or Durban-related strains myself, so can't say where the purpling is coming from.

I just found this post at ICmag showing a Pinetown Durban going purple, so it could be from that side:

I have a few DP’s from Dutch Passion in flower and one has gone full purple! Didn’t really notice it until flowering. Took clones then.

Beautiful! That has a slightly different look to it. Are you getting the anise aroma?

It’s a very chemically citrus-pine sort of scent. Maybe a little grapefruit-y.
Perhaps if I had anise in mind I may detect it. Will give another smell tomorrow.

So this pheno has these cool pink and blood-red trichomes with little kaleidoscopes of dark red secretory glands ( ? ).

Still has a pungent, grapefruit pine-sol scent among all of the phenos I have.
When I think of anise I think of fennel, which I have growing, too, but I don’t get that scent at all really on my flowers.

Thanks for this description. I'll have to take a fresh sniff of actual fennel and anise to see if my nose is being misled by faulty aroma-memories!

I think mine are atypical or just not fully developed. Seems I’ve read a lot of people describe an anise or black licorice smell.
Maybe I should stop letting a mammoth pee on them? -using Mammoth P which does smell like urea but I don’t mind.
I just realized too my timer was set to ON instead of AUTO from day before yesterday so poor girls got baked by a long day- fixing with an appropriate (13hr) darkout (starting from midnight last night).
Anyhoo, I’ll be watching this thread, and sharing my experience.

You said you put yours on 12/12 March 3rd; mine were switched March 10th, but I’ve decided to set a timetable of 10wks. MINIMUM from my flip date- I’m still a novice but it seems more people suggest starting countdown after hairs really start popping (about 2 weeks into12/12 for me, though had them within a week), and even with my autos I have I’m seeing the potential timeframe seems more in line with when they really started showing. Of course, going to check trichomes and such before harvest.
I’m also growing mostly on Springtime sunlight, with far less structure or equipment (converted hottub bottom-covered in Mylar, with four 300wLED compacts automated on/off in case I have them covered during eve/morn transition). Mine won’t be nearly as majestic as yours!

April 15 - About half white pistils and half rust orange pistils now. A few fan leaves are showing their age now along the edges after 6 weeks in the breezy desert-like (37% humidity) environment, but overall looking healthy and ready to fill out for another 2 weeks or more.
