Drying buds in a 2' x 2.5' x 6' tent with a T5 lights at the bottom

I have a small 2' x 2.5' x 6' tent with a phresh 4" x 12" filter hooked to a hurricane fan. At the bottom is a 8 bulb t5 with small clones. Can I dry my bud in that space above the light? Temps are in the low 70's RH is 40's in the apartment.

The big part is this an apartment building and smell can not be an issue.

Has anyone done this?

OP, best practices say you shouldn't, but it sounds like you don't have much choice. Temps can't climb higher than stated. RH is rather low, would be better for both clones and drying if it were higher. Bud on stems?

Look at it this way.. light is the concern, how much trichome degradation will occur in the few days it'll take to dry?? Not a lot I'd say. if you have to, go for it. Better to be safe and secure than not! Watch the temps..

This is the tent 2x2.5 (2x2 8 bulb t5)...the funny thing is when I had my basement grow I hung the buds in the grow section with a 400mh and some 4' t5 in the corner. I never noticed a a"degradation" ?@Six9 @GroErr @BobBitchen chime in

I dry in the dark myself, but I remember GreenGenes on here drying above canopy like you're talking about. I don't think you have to worry about light as long as it's not direct light, or in the sun. Degradation is said to affect THC directly exposed to light but over long periods of time, a few days drying shouldn't have any effect. Like you don't want to store your cured buds in light, but drying for a few days should be no problem. My concern there would be your temps will be high in that space and dry them out too fast.


If you can swing it, a separate small tent and filter would work better. You could add some water trays to bring your RH up a bit if needed but in a small enclosed space with a bunch of wet colas, your RH will likely be higher anyways.

Good info GroErr, temps in top of tent will def need to remain in check. A separate tent would be best. Say he had good temps and had to use existing tent, do you think circulation would be adequate? I don't see any fans in use.

If the temps are good there should be enough airflow to dry them, the slower the better. You want air movement but not directly on them imo. As long as you don't pack them too tight and there's air movement they'll dry well. I'm thinking the air above that light will be warm, looks like vents coming off the sides.

You're right about the fan, never caught that. @ilovetoskiatalta no fans for airflow in there?

temps are in the low 70's. I have a 4x12 Phresh hooked to a 190cfm on a variac that is my intake for the other tent. There is plenty of air flow. The bottom of the tent is unzipped and sucked in, I can put a clip fan no problem. The problem is the RH. It is in the 40's most of the tiime. Even yesterday it was pouring on the east coast and the RH in my flower tent was still never above 50%. How can I add moisture ? I am thinking that if i transplant the small clones to the 3 gallon fabric pots the clones will hold more moisture.
Either way this is an apartment as @Six9 said better safe than sorry. Thanks @GroErr

Yeah OP humidity is the tricky variable, location and time of year either help or hurt the cause. Lower temps are keeping RH low despite the rains. You may affect it a couple points with added moisture (water containers in tent), the clones won't mind. Have you chopped yet? If that's still to come, consider whole plant drying, or branches with fan leaves left on. The more mass the better. I dried a whole mainlined plant last winter, dry time was 8 days. Would have dried much faster otherwise.

So yep I'd say go for it, doesn't sound like you need to add the clip fan, see what GrowErr recommends too. Good luck!

Yeah I think your RH then is more the concern if the temps are Ok, you don't need a ton of airflow as long as it's moving/exchanging. Your RH will rise as you add medium so up-potting would raise it, just don't have any way to calculate by how much. If that's not enough or an option to up-pot, you could add a humidifier or water trays with a fan blowing on them, I've done that from time to time in small cabinets for seedlings/clones.
