Dropastones Northern Lights #5 Grow Journal

What's up everybody? This is my first grow from store bought seeds I got them through HGS (HighGradeSeeds) and I'm real excited about it. I usually grow hydroponically but this time around I'm growing in soil.

Just a few things about my setup. I'm growing in a 3X3X8 closet. I'm using a 3000k MH Sun Pulse lamp with cool tube. This lamp is kinda new on the market and it's supposed to compare to an Eye Hortilux lamp so I decided to give it a go for flowering my plants and we'll just see what happens.

I'm using a 530 CFM inline exhaust fan for my cool tube and two 60 CFM Hdrofarm blowers for added exhaust when the lights are out. I run them once every hour for 15 min to keep good air circulation going at night

I built what I call an air floor that sits just above my passive air intakes with a 20" box fan that sits in a box frame under the floor to help with air circulation. It helps to pull air from the passive intakes and pushes the fresh air up through the canopy of the plants.

I'm using 2.4 gallon Superoot Air Pots with Fox Farm Ocean forest Soil for my medium.

I'm also using Dyna Gro's full line up of nutes and additives, which is,

  1. Grow 7-9-5 General Purpose Formula
  2. Bloom 3-12-6 Blooming Formula
  3. Mag-Pro 2-15-4 Sulfur & Magnesium Booster
  4. Pro-TeKt 0-0-3 The Silicon Solution® - Strengthens Plants
  5. K-L-N Concentrate - The Rooting Solution
Well I think I've covered most of it. Feel free to post, ask questions and give advice in my thread. All are welcome to join in.

Anyway on with the show. These are 36 days in flower but they have only been flowing under this lamp for 2 weeks now. Before that they were flowering under T5 fluorescents because I was waiting on my last bag seed strain to finish up before I could move them into my flower room. I started flowering under T5's because I wanted to be sure these NL5 would be ready by Christmas.

The last 4 pics are the air floor I was talking about.

Enjoy.

Very nice looking grow . I also really like the fan you put underneath to improve circulation .

i ran HGS nl#5 a few times, no complaints, love to see how this turns out
my 1st seed was a good female, so not sure if pheno was unusual, but found it a pretty slow ripener
unless you like the strong head rush(didn't agree with my anxiety issues)

Subbed... Any particular reason you switch to soil?
Not really, I just started em out in soil and just decided to run with it. I got 3 clones, one from each plant going in my bubble cloner right now so the chances are I'll be going right back to hydro when this run is over.

Thanks for joining the ride.

I love a strong head rush and that's what I'm shooting for.

Thanks for riding along.

subbed and looking forward to watching it.

Okay, not a lot to tell. They're loving their environment and just doing their thing. I've been giving a 1/4 turn a day for even light distribution and watering once a week @ around 600 ppm and pH @ 6.8.

Here are the latest pics @ 41 day in flower, and their starting to get real frosty.

For those of you that are interested, my English Mastiff is now a daddy. I studded him out and I'm getting pick of the litter. These pics are of my boy and his mate along with the puppies @ around 3 weeks.

Enjoy.

This is my first indoor soil attempt. I took clones from these and was planning to use those clones for DWC. Although, I just decided to grow these out instead because I wanted some of this bud in time for Christmas. Also this is my first time growing this strain but it seems like it's not growing nearly as fast as it would have in hydro, but I do like the results. I'm kinda liking the soil route this time around because it's not as time consuming. I just mix, pH my nutes and water once or twice a week, easy as that. No more constantly checking my pH to make sure it's in range and topping off my bucket every morning. However I do check the run off after each watering and so far so good, it's been right around 6.5 every time. It just seems to me that it's a lot less hassle. I'll eventually go back to hydro when I can switch to a flood and drain system instead of DWC, I got everything I need except for the flood table. I think a 3X3 tray in my closet would be much better for me because I want to try a sog and grow a bunch of smaller plants instead of a few bigger ones.

peace.
