ahh man, that sucks.

most the time, the plant will get rid of the shell casing on its own though..

although, I too have had times where I had no choice but to try and take the casing off by hand.

I've found that if you use a set of tweezers.. and something else like a safety-pin to keep it stationary while your pulling on the shell... it's always worked for me.

better luck next time buddy!

peace.

11 or 12 weeks.
They did stretch a good bit and i topped for 2 main colas to keep it in check but they ended up about 6 feet tall.
Its a long wait but its worth it.

@Dwezel: Awesome that you got your seeds already.

@SCAR: Sux. I've done the same sort of thing. I should really leave them alone but it's hard not to interfere.

@Jesus: Yes it's the plant that had the damping off problem early and then the claw leaf later. Thanks for the advice on the SS. I still have to get used to working with it. I think I will try that top soil dressing idea. Perhaps even before she gets transplanted. Right now she is just holding. No improvement or deterioration. She has not shown any new growth in a week or more. I tried to clone all the cuttings I took when I trimmed her but so far all but one just rotted in the cloner.

Update:

C99#1 is in early flower. She's developed a problem on one of her 5 branches (why 5 main branches? don't try to count when you are stoned. k? nuff said ). I supercropped this branch and the pinch didnt heal but started turning nectrotic. I cut out the bad section of the stem and grafted them back together by cutting the one end into a sharp V and splitting the the other end to recieve it. I've reattached branches before but always at the site of a break so the parts mesh perfectly. I dont know if this will work. The problem is that it's a whole branch with a lot of leaves and shoots which is a heavy load on the stem. With grafting, like cloning you usually strip off as much foliage as you can to reduce the transpiration while the stem is getting established. I packed the graft with some wet rockwool and saranwrap to supply some moisture until things are flowing again and convered the branch with a plastic bag. Last time I looked she was somewhat wilted but holding. If the branch is still alive when I open the cab today, I will be optimistic.

I have two clones of C99#1 growing nicely in small pots and another rooting in the cloner.

The replacement BL seedling died from damping over disease. @#$! I may have kept her too humid. Dunno. Humidity with seedlings is very tricky in my experience. It's so dry here, things don't stay 'moist' long. It's either sopping wet or it's bone dry. What I have done in the past and will do in the future is to put a few drops of 1% H2O2 on the base of the stem with an eyedropper. I think I will just do it as a preventative on any seedling in the future.

I've started two more BL seeds. I expect them to surface today or tomorrow.

Once again, it's good to have y'all for company.

Some pix.

I apologize for all the clutter in the pix. I didn't have time to organize a photo shoot. With all the syringes lying around it looks a bit like a meth lab!

The veg cab. I'm very pleased with the way this is working out. It's just one tall shelf in a closet. The CFLs seem to do a great job of vegging. Node spacing is very tight.

Two C99 #1 clones. The one on the right is about ready to top. Ignore the scorch marks on the ends of the leaves. Still getting used to CFLs

UPDATE:

To recap: There were two c99 fems. This is #1 in the flower cab at about 4 weeks. Her sister, #2 got sick early on and is still fighting for her life. More on this drama below.

C99#1 is about 18" high. I had meant her to get bigger but this was my first sativa dom and I only vegged her to 9". From all the grow reports I've read, this strain consistently doubles her size in the stretch.

She looks very good. Not much in the way of fan leaves which looks a little strange to my eye but obviously doing well. I have a bit of yellowing on the lower leaves but that seemed to stop when I added epsom salts and cal mag.

I gave her a couple of shots of bloom inducers, FN Floralicious and Koolbloom.

She is filling in nicely and the leaves are getting quite frosty already. This strain is supposed to give nice yields.

This is my current veg cab setup. I was running 250W of cfls 6500K with a bit of 2700k mixed in. Everything grew nicely with dark leaves and short node spacing but very slowly. I had this 150W MH kit lying around so I set that up instead and boy did things jump! The plants grew more in a week than they had in the previous month! So fuck CFLs. HID lamps just kick ass. I have a 250W MH ballast kit & bulb on order. The cfl panel went into the flower cab as supplementary side lighting.

I have the light set up in 'low vertical' mode. I plan to convert my flower cab to this style so I thought I would try it here. Seems to be working very well. The element in the bulb is just about level with the plant tops. This way the light is surrounded by plants which is much more efficient than a horizontal bulb with a reflector. A top reflector would improve efficiency but much less than with a horizontal setup. Anyway that is in the works as well as Panda film for the walls.

Clones of C99 #1. For the time being, everything I prune from c99 #1 is made into a clone. For practice and there arent any other plants that need the cloner right now.

On the left is the most mature clone. About 9" ,topped for 5 main branches and LST'ed. I plant to get her upt to 12" before putting her in the flower cab. To her right is another clone a few weeks behind.

Last picture on the right is a tray of small plants with a couple of c99#1 clones, the Big Laughing and Syrup seedlings ( I will report on those in another post. )

IMG_5096.jpgIMG_5097.jpgIMG_5095.jpg

Here is my mini bubble cloner. The plugs are 1.5". When roots appear they go into jiffy plugs sitting in 1.5" net pots. When the roots come out the side, they get planted in a 3" airpot (front left in the rightmost picture above). This was another of my DIY projects that took too long and cost more than it would have to buy one. However I got exactly what I wanted and IMO its better built than the flimsy commercial ones. The black plastic lid that holds the plants is a piece of fender from a pickup truck :)

IMG_5100.jpg

C99 #2 has been fighting for her life almost since it began. I saved her from damping off as a seedling but I think her roots never got healthy. After a series of attempts to bring her back to health, she just stopped growing and looked pathetic.

I washed the soil off the roots. Cut off the bottom half of the roots and pruned her way way back and put her in a makeshift hydro set up. Air pump bubbler in a large coffee can. After a week of this she has started to grow! Leaves are turgid for the first time in a month and new growth is happening fast! The roots too show about 1" of new growth. I cant put her back in the soil with those roots, but I am hoping to get some healthy shoots to clone

PS: I can't get rid of the last thumbnail but in it you can see my CFL panel on the back wall for side lighting.

Tx Scarhole. I did a sniff. Hard to tell right now. There's a big plant in the cab ready for harvest and she really stinks up the place. There is a faint note of something fruity in the odor. Wouldn't pick it out as pineapple but she has a way to go yet.

Ive noticed the plants smell different at different times of day.
