Thanks.................& humbled, :p

I've got 1 cob per square foot, but only driven at just over 1amp/38w and without lenses/reflectors concentrating photons and with the big heatsinks, find I can get them as close as 10" without problems, as long as a bud is not directly under the cob

Edit............I've found that, cos I can't move my light any higher now, I think I'd Idealy like about 15-20inch space above the canopy...............I hope that sativa's stopped stretching LOL
Hm interesting, thanks!
I've been getting the feeling I need to raise my lights more and more since I put the cxb3590s in (I'm running them at 50W each bare - that is no added diodes like you have them. They have a bit more than 1 sqft each to cover when I have all 4 running. I've now reduced the light for my seedlings to 50W and am beginning to think 100W per plant will only be needed, if at all?, in full flower... I suspect it'S going to be a bit of trial and error until I get them well-integrated into my closet setup. No matter if I end up with a few left over COBs either, as I've been thinking of setting up big planters indoors (in the open, they won't need stealth haha) with tomato plants and salads to provide us with fresh produce throughout the winter

Been tryin to find plants that will grow in my shitty climate and to my surprise, these ugly lookin cherry tomato plants are putting out the tastiest tomatoes I've ever had. They've been totally left to their own devises apart from being watered on a couple of occassions, but they are in my good soil mix and they're F1 hybrids, so I'll have to re-source seed rather than using the seed from these, to grow them again next year. I'll take better care of them next year and try to train them up into proper plants with more space, than a perch on the top of my wall.
Ah nice! I actually chose a strain this year with hardiness in mind - called Brandywine Cherry, the description said it was bred in England to deal with the wet weather. I thought it weird that the strain should be popato-leaved (giving it more surface area on which to get sick on?), and lo, it also got the blight too. Very prolific strain, but not as hardy as I would have wished. The search will continue haha

It depends which way you wanna go, ie, DIY or a bought finished product. DIY'ing these lights isn't too difficult, BUT, it takes a LOT of research, design, materials sourcing and then building, if you're into all that and good with your hands, then you can end up with a far superior light IMHO. There are kits now available to make things much easier with that regard, Growmau5 has some great vids on youtube and his kit's are available from cutter.com, then there's the cheaper and more convenient option (If you're US based) of cobkits.com or timbergrowlights.com. All my cobs/drivers came from Jerry at Kingbrite(well Vikki actually) just before all these new companies started up and I sourced heatsinks as local as possible.

The easiest way to go about it would be to just buy a finished product, but I've zero experience or knowledge of whats good, bad or just seriously overpriced. I'm also not so 'up to date' with what happenin cob wise, it changes so fast, maybe @Airwalker16 could be a bit more helpful than me, I know he's well up on this shit

I was told to look at johnson or northern grow lights for ready to go lights

I'd defo go for something like that over building, just that we get slammed for shipping, import tax then VAT on top of all that............yes we even pay tax on our tax, lol
Yeah same here. Well sometimes I just fkn eat it because there is no other way ;). only other way for me is if someone hand carries in when flying here. I dont know enough people travelling here to think about that option very often

BUILD YOUR OWN
Hahaha......ok........your comment inspired me to get my arse into gear, so I've been busy building the prototype for my IR light, which I'm hoping to build tonight.

This was made with the left over mono's which I didn't blow up while making my other lightsIMG_6094.jpg IMG_6099.jpg IMG_6102.jpg

Here's my IR mono's and the drivers, which will be remote. My plan is to make the light the same as my prototype, but with 10 led's on each side, giving me 30w of infra red on each side. This will be hung in the middle of 2 rows of plants and only used for 15 mins at lights out.

Hung it up in my little cab, gonna build a cob fixture for in here eventually, but my Macgyvered solutions will have to do for now, it's actually filled a little dark spot I had nicely. The plants are PK x Livers, recently re-potted, plus a few cuttings front right and leftIMG_6110.jpg IMG_6114.jpg

Ya, the comonents of the maximizer you can diy for less than half minus the hood.
Any reputable threads you can point to for a noob to go lurk and learn? I have been hesitant to dig into it since there are always folks out there think they know.. and they DON'T know... and love to hear themselves talk lol
