Does Tobacco smoke harm the plants?

I want to know who is sitting in their grow rooms though and do you wear a bathing suit and sun glasses and put on sun tan lotion?
no, suntan lotion blocks UV rays. just rubbing against a plant could have disastrous effects on photosyn-awwww fuck it, couldnt hold a straight face!

Plants can contract something called tobacco mosaic virus. All commercial or university greenhouse will have a standing policy that everyone wash their hands prior to doing any work. I was told it can be transfered from residue on your hands so I assume smoke might pose some threat but I think it is very very small. I have never even seen or heard of an actual case.

Riddle,

Maybe thats why you haven't had much trouble with pests- the cigarette smoke on the plants keep killing them off. :)
I supose that is possible, I might add that there are 2 fans one below and one above moving air constantly

I know that nicotine sticks to walls and windows, don't need to windex a wall to see that (we clean them all the time) but I did a swipe on the inside of the mylar and got nothing, so I'm guessing the fans help with this?

I'm not saying that it couldn't hurt em, but I am saying that it hasn't yet

why would you want to, just why, there could be possible bad consequences, just grow them and smoke them, dont smoke with them:joint:

Think about everything contained in cigarette smoke. It's not healthy for humans, and it surely can only have negative affects on a cannabis plant. Plants naturally absord everything that's presesnt in the air. Absording tar through the stomata will most definately clog it some what. Have you ever smoked inside a room with white walls for long periods of time. The wall will turn yellow, guess what that yellow is. Tar and other things which your plant will consume.

Now...on the other hand i do smoke my chronic in my grow room...but i can't seem any harm in that.

veggies like cuc and tomatoe are what get this virus.

your plants should not be around long enough to have stains on them, it takes a LONG time for a smoker to really stain a wall or room.

Whats the diff between weed smoke and cig smoke.other than nicotine. i dont blow my smoke at my plants or even stand close to them so i see no harm. I have tried to google the virus and all i come up with is that its bad for veggies. I want some proof, i just dont see a 90 - 120 day old plant having any kind of accumulation of tar on it. what about outdoor plants that get all kinds of dirt and dust on them? makes ya go huuuuh

no, im saying how much worse is cig smoke than pot smoke for your plants. do you have the answer. are the people who dont smoke anything around their plants really doing that much better than the ones that always fire up a smoke or a bong when they go and check on their ladies. i bet there are dozens, no, odles and odles of guys that are pumpin out killer bud while smokin like a chimney all the while.I sure would like to know cause i smoke weed and cigs everyday around mine and i cant keep up with them now!

Does it matter, really? lol....i just know the chemicals can't be a good thing for your plant...just as they aren't good for us.

All you that say don't smoke in your grow room..... you are being completely illogical your plants aren't sitting there inhaling drags, if anything they have a little smoke around them for a few min. I just spent 10hrs in my room harvesting and had plants that were not being harvested in the same room. SMOKING No problems at all NONE. I bet most of the people on here saying DON"T DO IT, don't even smoke tobacco. Just a bunch of tobacco hate. Smoke away you will have no issues, have your fans running and you wont even be able to tell your smoking in the room plane and simple. Shit I had my ashtray sitting in the plant container on the dirt, so when I set my sig down, the smoke was flowing all around the plant. It's CRAAAAZZZYYY healthy, went from 2ft to over 6ft in about month. The strain is OG btw if y'all wanted to know. I grow organically also.

Smoke away, no problems with it at all!

I hate to say it but it does affect your MJ plants,i always thought if anything they would benefit from it,cause of the co2,NOT,cigarettes put out carbon monoxide not carbon dioxide,& MJ plants can easily get mosaic virus like tomatoes & or vegetables, believe me i just lost a crop to it my grow tent is in my bedroom were i spend alot of my time in & i smoke about a pack a day,i started seeing spots on my leaves eventually they turned to rust & wilted it stunted the plant mind you i was half way thru flowering,at 1st i thought it was a calcium magnesium def.then i played with my ph,i tried everything & spent countless hours on the web goolgling all kinds of MJ def, till i came across mosaic virus & let me tell you everything i read about that virus & the symptoms etc. is exactly what happened to my crop im pissed after all the $$$ i spent on all of my hydro set up,nutes etc, never mind all the time & effort i put into it,makes me not want to grow anymore really, now i got to start from scratch & clean my whole set up very well with bleach & decontaminate it all.

Why? you should already have two rooms one for growing and one for blooming but its a weed and if several people and things you ready claim its not good then it amazes me that people still cant listen and want proof lol. Smoke around them no one is saying its going to kill them or make them look any different at all I doubt anyone is smoking that fucking much in a NON vented grow room. Your bong clogs eventually but with a fan blowing and ventilation its probably not doing anything to them. I want to know who is sitting in their grow rooms though and do you wear a bathing suit and sun glasses and put on sun tan lotion?
Just because a few people say its a bad thing doesnt mean its true... logically thinking it sounds like a bad thing. But like the other guys i would like to see a type of experiment to show for one side or the other. Even if an experiment proved it is not harmful to your plants at all doesnt mean im going to immediatley go and smoke a cig next to my plants but it would be nice to know FOR SURE if it would harm your plants or not.

Likewise, just because a few people say its fine doesn't mean it is. If logic and common sense suggest that it could be harmful, and you ignore it, then you are abandoning reason. An experiment would be nice, and it would probably set a lot of things straight for those of you demanding evidence. However, it seems a little pointless. The answer seems fairly obvious. I dont mean to sound like a know it all or anything, you are asking an honest question, but some of these answers are painful to read!! Do you guys think that botanists and professional growers smoke cigarettes in their lab? No way! Besides that, if you know a little bit about how plants function you would be able to put the pieces together with very little difficulty. It makes so much sense when you think about the actual science involved. I'll try to explain to the best of my knowledge, but doing your own research elsewhere will provide a better understanding. Believe it or not, they do have the answer to this question ;)
First off, I smoke a good 3 or 4 packs a week, and if you saw me, you would think I was just fine too. Im alive, im physically active, and I generally feel pretty good, but that's not the reality. It's nice to think that cigarette smoke doesn't do you any harm but you know damn well its messin things up inside. So the assumption that your plant is healthy because it looks healthy and doesn't have any problems is just that, an assumption. Or it's a self affirmation that is used to excuse the behavior and allow you to smoke shamelessly around your plants. Honestly i smoked buds around my plants all the time, i used to blow a big ol hit their way every single day, even now it doesn't seem like it matters so much. So if you wanna light one up in the grow room go on ahead, i dont think most people really even think about it. Im not here to tell you whether you should or shouldn't, I just want to burn it into your heads that cigarette smoke is not healthy for plants and can potentially damage crops.
Pretty much every plant on dry land (including cannabis) have pores on their leaves called stomata which are responsible for gas exchanges with the environment. They are like nostrils for a plant. They open and close depending on environmental factors such as available CO2 and sunlight, as well as internal factors like having too much oxygen or even H20.
Every cigarette leaves thousands of chemicals and carcinogens that DO IN FACT CLOG THE STOMATA!!! No data needs to be obtained, because its not really a question as far as I know. Since many of you tend to ignore this fact I will put it into perspective. Leaves are like sponges, they absorb everything, some plants dont even get nutrients from soil because so much is obtained through the air. So pollutants like tar and carbon monoxide from even one puff will eventually find there way into the thousands of stomata making it more difficult for respiration. If a plant cannot release a certain amount of oxygen then it will not absorb a certain amount of CO2, thus a certain amount of productivity will be lost or slowed. You might not be able to see it, but even fast moving air propelled by a fan is absorbed. It doesn't need to settle in the room for it to be harmful (although if a plant is exposed to conditions where smoke has settled around it these effects will likely worsen). Again, you may not be able to see the negative effects of this, plants are very resilient and do a pretty good job at coping, but the effects are taking their toll.
This isnt the only reason why resources will be cut off though (oh no, doesn't stop there!) smoking around a plant throughout its life cycle will inevitably result in less stomata on each leaf to match available CO2. I cant imagine you would lose a whole lot if you smoked around them once or twice a week, but overtime a plant learns the limitations of its environment and adapts accordingly.
So there are a few examples of how cigarette smoke and its residual toxins effect photosynthesis and respiration in the leaves. Now lets consider the roots. I've kinda always suspected that cigarette smoke isn't something I wanted around my leaves, but I didn't really think about how the root system was effected until I started using aeroponics. Inside a five gallon bucket I have a mist like environment that recirculates a nutrient solution into the air where the roots hang down. I've also got a bubbler in the reservoir that takes air from the grow room and pumps it straight into my solution. If a plume of smoke comes anywhere near that aquarium pump you can bet your sweet ass its gonna end up in my solution. That carbon monoxide will destroy the beneficial population of microorganisms that are so important to nutrient uptake. Essentially this will decrease the uptake of nitrogen by killing off the bacteria that fix nitrogen in the first place and since carbon monoxide can be absorbed by the roots, less oxygen and less nutrients will be.
I researched this because I was worried about a specific growing medium, but I learned that it could be potentially hazardous for ANY growing medium, and that means soil too. In extreme conditions a plant will die from cigarette smoke! So do as you may, but be mindful of the physiological implications that come along with smoking.

this is how i see it.. cigs are harmful to people.... OVER TIME as in YEARS so if your plant is growing for 3 years then possibly bad but if your plant is growing for lets say 5 monthes i dont see an issue. you got ventalation to get rid of stagnant air. so really i would say you are fine.
