Does overferting cause smell and taste issues?

I’ve been growing buds in rdwc and had at least 6 harvests so far and none of them had any real taste or smell.

Even during flowering and after a slow dry and cure.

I’ve realised that I was following standard ppm guidelines on these forums that people say eg “start at 800ppm and work your way up etc”

This grow I’ve got going now I’ve worked my way up from as low as 10ppm of nutes and could see the ppm monitor going down when the plants used nutes. I’ve realised dwc is very efficient and my plants burn on anything over 430 ppm even 6 weeks into flower makes the ppm go up within 24 hours rather than down.

Has anyone else experienced this? I don’t want to get my hopes up but I’m hoping this has been my problem all along and I’m gonna have some dank stinking, amazing tasting buds this time round.

I'd say you are on the right track. Less is more. My smell hasn't been strong the last few grows and I have been pushing the nutes too high. I'm going back to light feeding. A lot of ppm pens are on the .5 scale and only read half the ppm's. That confuses the shit out of everybody. If you try some calibration solution you will know how your meter reads.

My 2nd idea is to lose the wall mounted fan and strong breeze. I think it's blowing the stink off my weed. I never used to use much fan on my grows. Just a low gentle breeze from an oscillating fan on low. I have some fans that are too strong on low. I'm going back to a gentle breeze.

I do have some very strong fans blowing like mad on the plants... this could also be a factor. Anyone know of a cheap easy way you can control the speed of fans ?
