Does anyone treat their auto a little like photos? Such as ...

Training and defoliating? All things in moderation, of course, but I like my buds to get LIGHT!!!!! I am growing a couple of autos for the first time, and even though I have read how tempermental autos can be when treated like photos, some habits are hard for me to break! I am an avid fan of LST and mild defoliation sessions when I deem necessary. Please note, this is not an invite to debate whether or not one should defoliate; I just want to know if, other than lighting schedule throughtout the grow of course, if anyone has used photo growing techniques with autos to boost yield. If so were your efforts successful or a complete bust? I am growing a pink diesel x amnesia, and an Auto Mazar. I just started the pink diesel so she's just 2 weeks:

Here is my auto mazar at 4 weeks prior to defoliation or lst:

I defoliated her right after that photo and she looked sad:

Here she is today, one week later at 5 weeks old with very mild training:

She seems to have come through okay and I am going to try to be hands off other than watering/feeding for the remainder of her life. What have your experiences been with this? Trying to learn these autos ... They are waaaay out of my element!

I did some LST on my (first) auto AK to accommodate for my slim tent and to open up some bud sites. Did some light defoliation twice. It seemed to stun her for a day or two when I would defoliate but the LST had no different effect than it would on a regular photo. She would turn up in a few hrs and keep pushing!
That pink diesel x amnesia sounds like a badass cross! Where's that from? Would like to see some specs.
GL with your grow!

Hey Guys, First post here, When you defol. autos are you doing it to potential bud sites, in the first 3 weeks, before they show signs of sex or after they have began to bud? I have two cks early miss germinating and was going to experiment on one of them to compare yeilds but i have no experience with autos.

Actually, I'm planning on FIMming one of my Super Cali Hazes, but am waiting for the beans to pop. I know a lot of people increase their yield with LST I see it a lot on here. FIM is where you wait for third set of real leaf to show and take 80% off the tip top of the tiny new set of leaves stretching up from center of the tip of the plant.. I saw if somewhere on the this forum and will post it if I find it again, but he seems to have success with it producing 4 top branches, not two as will happen when fully Topping a plant...

Good to know, thanks for responding! The pink diesel x amnesia is a freebie I chose with my last Midweeksong order. Have read that it's going to be a beast smoke. But again, have never done autos so always went off of the old idea that they are not as potent as photos and they give you a headache?? Glad to be experimenting for myself to make my own determinations. The specs at the MWS site are as follows:

Pink Diesel x Amnesia
Midweek Song would like to introduce this new marijuana to our seedbank. This plant is highly resinous and the plant has shades of purple, pink and red in it. This plant is an indica leaning autoflower which has a very mellow highly enjoyable effect. This offspring is a very balanced indica and sativa automatic seed with a very fruity flavour. This plant will show sex around 3 weeks from planting the seed. It can grow all the way upto 1 metre tall and if you give her a good environment it can be very branchy.

Genetics Auto Mazar x NYCD
Sex Auto Flowering
Height Medium
Flowering Time 9-10 weeks
Seed Bank Midweek Song
Yield Medium
THC Level Unknown
Type Indica Dominant

Peace and grow love! :peace:

I NEVER defoliate potential bud sites. I always pinch off the fan leaves that are completely shading the lower potential bud sites, and I do this sparingly over various sessions as I deem necessary which is typically after the 3 week mark. My auto mazar actually showed her sex by three weeks but no real buds started to form until week four - 4 1/2. Sometimes I allow my girls to get a little bushy again without bothering them; however, I will notice the new leaves are less wide and don't completely block out light. Good luck to you my fellow auto first-timer!

You have seen this technique done with autos? Seems like the plant would really need a week to week and a half recover time and my understanding is that with autos we don't have the luxury of long recovery times like we do with photos. That's the beauty of personal experimentation eh? I'd be interested to see how an auto handles FIMming.

So how did she end up? I popped a pink diesel x amnesia auto last week from midweek but I'm not finding much info on her.
She did great, SUPER RESINOUS, I did no more defoliating and her final color had a slight pink hue. I was able to harvest 9 weeks from seed. I wasn't crazy about her smell as she actually had a gasoline-type odor. That smell died down after drying and her smoke was cool. Not the most potent I have had in life but not the least potent either. More of a body stone for me. Didn't feel like doing S**T after toking!! Didn't weigh final harvest due to pulling a few samples before the final chop. However even after sampling I was able to fill an 8 oz. mason jar to the top when she was dried. Don't know that I would pay for more of these seeds but a freebie is a freebie so of course I'd stick another free one in the room with the rest of my ladies! Good luck on the grow, keep me posted on your experience with her!

Thanks for the info bro. Was she a heavy feeder? I actually like the gas smell lol

I'm a girl bruh, hence the name "Chicsgro2"! LOL! However, my girl was not a heavy feeder at all. I never used full strength recommended doses on her and only fed every other watering up until two weeks prior to harvest at which time I gave only water and unsulfured molasses.

No need to pinch off or cut leaves ... Just tuck them .
Autos hate ANY stress ... Just do a little LST - to open up middle.

Auto Strains will try to keep an apical type shape but can be LST easier than other methods. It doesnt have enough time to recuperate from over zealous trimming and manhandling. You want her to setup a good ROOTZONE over anything else.
