Does anybody else get weirded out by all the 3D printers on Kickstarter?

Like seriously, at any given time there is usually at least one 3D printer that is getting ridiculous amounts of pledges, it's like nobody seems to remember that like 2 dozen other teams built the exact same friggin thing lol. Right now the most successful 3D printer project open for pledges is a staff choice from Kickstarter.

It's actually pretty irresponsible on Kickstarter's part. The 3D printers are very appealing because they take in huge investments that Kickstarter gets a piece of. So they're definitely not complaining about the volume. Though, they've royally fucked over the 3D printer industry. What's going to happen when the market is flooded with all these different models in such a short timeframe? It's going to be really tough for anybody to stand out with that much competition, nobody will really thrive.

Actually, the whole thing is rather amazing. My wife runs one and that's a good thing to have access to. Kickstarter is another matter but I am willing to believe that the abnormal number represents the vitality of the field to at least some extent. Many will doubtlessly be bullshit investments.

Read today that for the first time, NASA uploaded a tool to the ISS which they then printed and used. But the first thing that they used the 3D printer for was to make a replacement part for the 3D printer - that shows some promise. Wonder how it does on Fleshlights? (for the record, spellcheck had no problem with Fleshlight - it even demanded capitalization - my fault perhaps)
