Ah, didn't realize they were only going to "shutdown the port" for one day. With such a realistic goal this time it may be get a lot more support. Truck drivers in the country HAVE gotten screwed. The strange part is that they have such a big union, why don't they weild any power? They've gone on strike before and it is DEVASTATING to the country when the trucks stop. But in the last 20 years their unions must have lost the good fight. Truckers used to make money and in return sacrifice their lives to the world of trucking. Long hours, stressful work, but it used to be decent pay. It's pretty downright shitty out there for truckers now. I've had this discussion with the truckers that bring our goods from port at our work. It ain't the career it used to be.

Most truckers arent unionized. Only 6% of workers are in a union in all trades. They are demonized because they support Democrats. Of course they will support any pro labor candidate from any party. Seems to be a lack of them on the Republican side

Can't argue that. Maybe they wouldn't be demonized if they weren't trying to gain political power. How about supporting your union members instead of your local congressman.

Well, when you politicize everything you get demonized by at least 1/2 the people. You don't have to be a collectivist to believe that workers that stand together in a union have more bargaining power than they do as individuals.

I hope the Occu-Poo people brought their raincoats. I haven't seen anything about this yet in the news.

Oakland is of the hook. thousands of people marching 4 lanes wide and a 1/4 mile long over the overpass towards the port. they shut it down this morning and are coming back now. they should be at the port any minute now.

this could go on forever.

Had to leave for work at about 10:30 this morning and was really expecting to get the latest news from this thread. :(

Good to know fdd. This was just supposed to be a 24 hour blockade right?

here in the UK the protests are quite pathetic in comparison.

Nobody really cares too much here... aside from the public sector workers moaning about not getting a proper pension raise, even though they earn more and get better benefits than most of the private sector.
