Do you dry your weed before you roll it into joints?

Since discovering the online smoker community, i've noticed a lot of people say that they like to keep their weed moist, (not moist, but you know what i mean, not crispy)
Long term, this makes sense, because the THC is more easily lost from dry weed,

But when you're going to grind it up for a joint, do you dry your weed (air dry in a warmish room or in front of a low temp room fan/radiator/oven etc.)
I've always air dried till crispy and grinds to powder, think it gives a much more even pull,

anyone else do this or just me? :leaf:

not me. i pull it out of the ball jar and grind it.

a few years ago, after reading Simon's thread about curing, i started using humidity meters and leaving the buds between 60 and 65% humidity instead of drying them until they felt right. i recently tried some pot that was drier than that and i liked the feel of the buds better. i'm going to lower the humidity to the 50s and see if i like it there. at 65 percent it grinds up ok but it's not something you could grind up with your fingers.

IMO, if you can crumble it with your fingers, you've gone too far.

I always keep my buds between 50 to 55% humidity, I agree that keeping it too dry destroys the smoke.

You can also put in a shot glass and dice it up with scissors that way its easier if its still a bit damp.
Never tried this, i'll have to get some shot glasses in, Student with no shot glasses, sacrilege anyway ;D

Seems like this is the general consensus ha, gonna stop crisping my bud out haha

A buddy of mine just told me he does this today..first I've ever heard of it. I'm definitely tryin it next joint I roll tho.

The dryer the higher, as they use to say. I like it bone dry, and that's really the best way if your going to vaporize.

Also I find it's a lot easier on my lungs if it's really dry as oppossed to being more moist.

I remember I sent a sample of "Black Magic bud" to Gypsy Nirvana, and he complained it was to dry. As I had let the sample dry out totally, figuring the Gyper was a high end smoker like myself, but no, I guess not, lol.

On another similar note, I was just vapor bonging some of the tasty Pineapple turepintine hash that the Thunderstruck clone produces, with a friend. Who just smokes the bud from the clone. He commented on how refreshing tasty, and easy on the lungs the sift hash we were smoking was. But didn't like to make it himself, as the bud was consumed to fast when you did that.

I agreed, but noted, my lungs felt so much better, smoking dry sift, rather then moist/wet bud.

Same way with the weed itself, burns up much faster when it is totally dry. But much healither and easier on the lungs that way.

Its a general consensus that if its below 65% then it stops curing properly. And if you have every had properly dried (7-14 days min) and cured (3weeks min) you will notice how smooth and tasty it is. I find if my weed is too dry then it causes me to cough and get a bad case of pasties and throat burn. I find weed thats properly moist makes joints go a lot farther as well. When i roll a joint and its at the halfway point it can keep going on forever with all of the delicious oils building up, When its dry they burn up way to fast.

Oh the mixed consensus we have here .. Personal preferences will come to light of course .. I refuse to smoke the Dank bone dry , as the terpene profile is diminished by doing so .. Nothing like having great weed with little flavor .. I like it sticky and just pliable , usually its scissor weed that retains the most flavor and aroma ..

Dont get me wrong , I understand the drier the higher theory and I practice this only when confronted with inferior swag or mid's .. Those med's seriously need the last of the water removed in order for me to notice any effect at all .. I always made sure to air dry this shit before smoking .

I am far from a scientist but I do think that the drier the herb the more optimal the Decarboxylation will be during combustion , hence resulting in a stronger high ..

i never heard this argument about the dryer the higher. i'll have to look into it and of course, experiment.

i have mostly been smoking the same 4 genetics for over a year. i forgot about this thread and didn't dry out my stash. i just opened all the lids. i'm going to get them down to 50ish moisture and see if i notice a difference in buzz. they are all between 60 and 65 now.

i cut the new batch in 20 days and i'm going to dry it more than usual.

so many theories, so little time. :)

My theory is that cannabis burns differently depending on humidity levels where you live. This would explain vastly different opinions. When it's humid, cannabis needs to be dry or a joint won't stay lit.

For me i got the original jars where i cured the buds all sealed .... the buds stay moist there. But i also have my stash jar that i open multupe times a day for a week to 2 til i restack the stash jar. The buds dry a bit after 2 days in the stash jar n by then they ready to grind for Js. But when theyre moist they dont roll as well n are too sticky n dont even burn that well!

I prefer vaporizing fresh herb off the plant. I also have asthma, so that may have something to do with it.
