Harsh perhaps but true. But if you follow the actions of organized religion through history...millions have been slaughtered over a MYTH... now that's harsh my friend. :peace:

There's nothing wrong with admitting that you need the crutch of a myth to support yourself. Just don't insist that others need that crutch as well. The Christian religion as well as Islam is a cult, nothing more.

A fair amount of believers would have this to say to your comment "Well, I dont insist others need my God. I believe but I just keep it to myself and not get all preachy".

I'd like to direct a response to those who would reply with that.

By funding, supporting etc a church, you are indirectly insisting others need God. You see, the church takes those funds and projects "the werd of God" to EVERYONE. I don't know about your town but I can make a fair bet the churches have some form of a reader-board out by the street where they change phrases every few weeks. You helped finance that sign, thus you are insisting others believe. In addition, you are funding web sites, web banner ads, posters, phone calls, and mission trips.

Another point, is in my opinion, it is a danger to society to have people believe in a myth. Not only do I question the sanity of these individuals who believe in a cosmic zombie but also those who believe an invisible being who watches us while we jerk off.
I know if I was interviewing someone for a nanny position and she told me "I believe in invisible beings, zombies, and many legends I have never seen or had any evidence of" I would certainly not hire this person.

In the US you begin to get into political issues with the church as well. (this is where Islam would be killing others.. only in the US we hire presidents to utilize our military kids to do the killing in a more politically acceptable fashion) The church leaders tell you that one presidential candidate is the anti-christ, anti-god, anti-christian WHATEVER.... and the other candidate is a wholesome Christian... What a fucked up situation you have now. People voting for who they are told to vote for. Not that I even believe in the vote counts anyways... But it's the security issue with the whole system. People doing what they are told by others, for the greater good of their "people and God".

Anyways.. just random thoughts and points.

No, you are right on target with that post. People wish to think that it is only the extreme spectrums of religion which are the problem, but no, the entire mechanism is corrupt.

Certainly the christian doctrine is entirely based on lies. What good can come from an institution whose foundation has been corrupted from the get go? The wrong fork in the road was taken long ago.....

Thats very true man and its sad. There are millions of people voting for the guy who leads our country because some guy at their church told them who the good candidate was.
I saw a clip on the colbert report a while back (that I can't seem to find on youtube) but it was this woman saying "I voted for george bush because he believes in god"
Imagine how many other people there are like that.

I don't blame the people. They are just pawns in the bigger picture. Its the god damn religious leaders making shit up and scaring people with it for hundreds of years.
Talk about a MASS brain wash......

EUREKA!

I think we have just made a break-through on this whole "believing" thing.

It's not a BELIEF at all! It doesn't have to do with God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, Heaven, Hell, Creation.... None of that!

What's really happening is someone is going around and telling people they must give up some bud OR 10% of their income and surprisingly enough they care about bud more then CrackerJax does!

It makes way more sense... It's really about the love of marijuana! Dude.. I feel so much better now. Really!

Funny thing is most of these religions would not even exist without fear, manipulation, and all kinds of cult tactics. My guess is we would be left with mostly eastern religions maybe hinduism as well. I just can not in good conscience support an organization that has killed and hurt so many people.

I would like to say people are waking up but hell not even George Washington attended church. He never showed regularly and when they told him he was a bad example he agreed and just stopped going. Ben Franklin wrote a book called "The Teachings of Jesus Christ", all he did was take out all the stuff he felt extraneous in the bible (such as many of the miracles) and leave the basic teachings of Christ.

To me it's simple, there is no need for any type of institution to explore your spiritual nature. Just open your mind, stop judging so much, be kind, and enjoy all that life has to offer. The movement is underway, puritan values are fast becoming a thing of the past and education is trumping ignorance.

i think any religion is good if the person studies and worships at home, to them selves, or in familys. its when groups get together that causes problems. A PERSON is smart, trusting, dependable. PEOPLE are ignorant, undependable, and dumb.

i dont have a problem with peoples beliefs, as long as its theyre beliefs and not what they have been told to believe. why have beliefs if all they are is someone elses? the bible was meant to be interpreted by everyone differently, but still get the good messages across.

i have problems with the church. that is where human influence counters religious teachings. that is the institution. why cant religion just be something everyone practices on theyre own.

Mans imagination has no limit.
Finally he says something true!

This thread has really fizzled out. Without our beloved pillar of (?) it is pretty boring here today. At least the little Buddha dude had some good stuff, new growth if think.

I am kinda disappointed.

Some of this stuff is crazy to think about, I dont think that its scientifically possible to be a god, I mean everything else in the universe can be explained, how the solar system works, they havent found god though. Some of these things in the bible dont make sense, in the bible its adam and eve and then you go to the next page and its like a whole civilation, that means that everybody would be incest. I myself belive in evolution, science, lol how can god be lookin down on each and every one of us, like wtf? lol how the hell can he see us but we cant see him, and theres alot of people in this world how is he supposed to look after everybody? not possible lol :bigjoint:

I just dont understand how religions say that people who dont follow their religion are going to hell, like Christianity who says unless you accept Jesus as your savior you go to hell. At least Judaism says “The righteous of all nations are worthy of immortality.”(any good people can go to heaven) and the Muslim religion states "Surely those who believe, and those who are Jews, and the Christians, and the Sabians -- whoever believes in God and the Last Day and does good, they shall have their reward from their Lord."
