Do most people top outdoor plants?

I know topping is suppose to produce extra cola branches, and possibly increase the yield. Additionally, people top to control the height. However, outdoor growing there is no height limitations unless you have neighbors or such. Wouldn't the energy of not topping the plant go towards a bigger main cola?

Do most people top outdoor plant? or just let them be?

Yes... not for height limitations, I super-crop and mainline them in trellises to keep the height down (stealth/legal reasons). I like more tops like most and outdoor you have a long veg so you'll get the benefits.

Depends on preference and other variables such as height if its a guerrilla crop most likely you will to keep them lower to the ground also if your particular climate has heavy winds your big beautiful top could come down just depends on your particular preference and goals

Yes, If you don't top you'll get more energy channeled to a main cola. Lots of outdoor growers like several nice colas or even a whole bunch of smaller buds, with no large colas at all. At any rate, they like the increased yields.

Nope, as getaway likes to say it makes it easier for plant to split. You don't need to top to maintain height and to get more budding sites if you utilize supercropping on a strain or pheno that reacts to it. This plant has never been topped, only cropped, and it has maintained a stealthy shortness. I'd also say there isn't an issue with lack of bud sites lol. Of course, this is a strain with lots of lateral branching naturally and she responds to cropping like a champ. Just my 2 cents.

thanks for the input guys. I topped my indoor grow but wasn't sure if it was necessary for outdoor grow. I am kind of a in dilemma now. My plant was started from seed on June 1st. It's has reached it's 4th growth node now. I live in S.cali and i am not sure if i have enough time to top with such a late start in the season. Would i regret not topping now? should i just grow it out without topping to see what kind of christmas tree i get?

btw.. I'll post a pic later and maybe you guys can help me decide to top or not?

You can learn so much from using the search function on this site. It's a powerful tool man and will lead you to posts by guys and gals with a helluva lot more grow skilz than I possess. YouTube too. There are thousands and thousands of tutorial videos. Just run a search. Here's one to get you started. Check out other vids by Cannabis College and others. If you still have any specific questions after watching hit me up and I'll try.

Hey again. So here's a pic of my outdoor white cookies grow. I just transplanted to a 4.5 Gallon pot. It appears to be stretching quite a bit. It's about 1ft tall now after about 1.5 month from popping the seed. You think i have enough time to top? there's only about 2 months left before the autumn equinox.

does it stretch more outdoor? i see other people's white cookies indoor grow and they all look short and bushy. At this rate my plant is going to be 6ft tall at the end of veg.

Topping outdoors helps with mold control too. Lots of smaller heads are better then one big mold prone one.
yeah.. i know the many benefits. But my concern is.... do i have enough time to top with the autumn equinox coming (flowering). It takes about 2 weeks for a topped plant to recover. So i am more inclined to go "a'natural" with this grow.

Nothing "flips" outdoors. 12/12 is for indoors grows because it's a good low number hours of light that will likely trigger flower in all strains of cannabis that use photoperiod phases or whatever you call them. Some plants will flower at 7 hours of dark, some need a lot more. It's strain and even phenotype dependent. Google it man and in no time you will be teaching the photoperiod and how it relates to flowering at Cannabis College lol.

Topping now will increase your yield. I top as soon as the new tops grow 5-6 inches. Some of my older plants have 32 main tops. That is topping five times. I doubt you will have time to do that many, but you will have time to top 2 or 3 times before flower.

Top it above the second node, you will have four tops at that height within a week.

You're going to need a bigger boat ( pot).

July 22nd is when the nights become longer than the days, this triggers the flowering response in most strains.
