Do i need a grow tent??????

my question is do i really need a grow tent?? i have a unused bedroom thats about 10' x 14'. its light tight and nobody goes around it at all. i guess im really just looking to see if there is any advantage at all for using a tent like set up.

I like them because you can veg or flower in them without any light leaks. But a closet will do.Its all on the growers preference.

i would just do it in the bedroom, then u could save on ventilation and cooling b/c no intake and exhaust fans are needed unless ur worried about smellin up the house...all u would need in the way of fans is like one oscillating one for in the room just to move the air around...also u would prolly need 2 open the door for like an hour a day or more just to get fresh air in...plus u could prolly do more plants and u could let them get bigger than in a tent

In a tent, all the light is contained in a small area. In a room, unless you fill it with a bank of lights and utilize the whole area, the light that goes to the side is lost. You could save money on the tent by growing in a corner and use white cardboard or something for the other two walls.

I have a 600w Mh for vegging and a 600w HPS for flowering. Its a electronic ballast that can switch out the bulbs

With that amount of lighting I would use a tent for sure, you will get better yield in a tent. A 600w would be good in a 4x4 footprint.

I don't know about 600w's but I know that 1000w's will leave photo impressions in carpet, linolium(vinyl flooring) etc. If you don't use a tent simply hang up the reflective poly around your grow. Of course place something under it to protect the floor, something that can contain any water you may want to spray on your plants.

i kinda wanted to stay away from them because of the heat issues. i dont really have any where to vent. Or can i just vent into the room? wont i just be recirculating hot air if i do that? Maybe i can just put some sort of walls up and cantain the light a little more like that. Has any one done a side by side comparison or know of a thread where i can read up on the benefits of a tent?

instead of buying spendy tents you should make one out of black and white panda film, it is light proof, and very reflective

4 2x4's and you have urself a frame then just staple gun whatever mylar or panda sheet there you go cover your other walls and use a blackout sheet with velcro as the wall/door.. may you figure out what you want to do and have great success my friend

I'm growing in a spare bedroom myself. I got a 4x8x6'2 tent shipped for under $200 and a nother 4x4x6'2 shipped for 72 bucks.

I set up 2 600W in the big tent and a 400W in the small tent.
I decided to just hook my exhaust up to the cold air return. It has a few advantages.
1. Filters the air a second time.
2. Preheats the air saving money on my heating bills.
3. Any extra air runs up and out the chimney.

I use a table with my 2 400w HPS hanging from the ceiling and covered open boxes with mylar and placed them all around my grow.. I can easily break it down and set it up within seconds to tend to the ladies.

yeah dude, fuck the tent. You can build your own tents with panda film as people above have already stated. The larger the room the less susceptible to fluctuations in grow conditions it will be (mainly temps). Plus you have plenty of room to move around in. It would be nice to at least vent the hoods though. Or run an AC to moderate temps.

cover the entire floor with plastic and go to town!!
