Do Atheists Believe . . .

We know there is religion. There's evidence in the form of churches, signs, books, evangelists, laws, persecution, etc.

We also know there is a concept of gods.

But we do not believe in those gods.

Fun trivia:
A Christian, Jew, or Muslim could be considered over 99% atheist. They just need to get rid of that last, pesky god.

I like my gods chocolate. Don't care much for religions at all. They give me gas.

Can I just say (and I'm trying not to be a dick) but could everyone on RIU please start spelling ATHEIST properly? Let's all remember; "I before E, except after C". Ooops; this word is an exception to the rule. It just seems like every 'god' thread is filled with people (mostly believers) who just can't spell the word. I know it's the end of days and all, but let's try to maintain standards right up until the rapture, okay? Okay?????:-P

There are lots of different kinds of atheists. Personally, I deny the existence of beings who 1) makes claims to have created me, you and everything, 2) expect me to believe them and their agents and behave in prescribed grateful ways for this boon, 3) have plans for the future that I just can't feel very interested in. I'll choose for myself where I spend the afterlife, thank you very much.:-o

lol This is true.

We dont believe in our own atheist god lol

But we understand and acknowledge the fact that there are religions, but choose not to embrace any.

i believe that western religions are an ancient form of population control that has so effectively brainwashed the populaces they serve, they populaces dont even question it they just accept it.

Galileo, I feel your pain.....

i think the religious extremists should abandon all there modern possessions, and go live on a barren rocky island.

im sure the god of there choice will provide food shelter and safety.
perhaps they could eat there bibles?

There's nothing funny about a chocolate jesus that I know of.

I know how to put a chocolate jesus inside of you, more than one way, in fact.

Maybe it's so hard to find because . . .IT DOESN'T EXIST!!!

I believe many atheists believe they are atheists because they don't fully understand what the word means and instead are more accurately described as anti-organized-religionists.

There you go starting a sentence with 'I believe' again! :blsmoke:

As an atheist, I would say that being an atheist has led me to become an 'anti-organized religionist'.:bigjoint:

The answer to your original question is in the word it self, it breaks down as follows the "a" part is from the latin root without, "theist" is a greek work meaning belief in theos(god). The word translates to without god.

people are as ignorant in their religious beliefs (or lack of them) as they are in anything else. do you think most christians fully understand the implications of their chosen belief system?

Can someone please give me ONE example of a good, useful or even relevant post by WOODSTOCK?!

All this user every does is spam threads with completely unnecessary posts and ridiculous opinions. I realize everybody has the right to their own opnion, but sometimes (MOST TIMES in woodstock's case) they should be kept inside of our heads.

No direspect intended, just thoroughly annoyed.

You sound like a teenager who is trying to sound clever in front of peers whom you know to be less educated. I do not believe in God(s), I have studied religion, within one of my degrees, and understand the subject. I do not actively believe in 'nothing' that is nonsensical as is the premise of your statement. On the whole, non-believers only ever think about their non belief when faced with a believer who needs to know why you do not believe. I believe in me and my family, thats it, finito, I am in charge of my destiny, no other, only me, got it? When I die i will rot, and that is it...
