So I've been reading and absorbing as much info on this forum for about a month now and wanna see what you guys think about my first grow. Lady luck has been a cruel mistress to me. I started w/ 6 plants grown from anonymous bagseed, and 3 were males, 1 a hermie, and 2 ladies. Still, I am only looking for head smoke and I think I'll have enough to last me a few months...maybe...with your help.

I'm in 10 gallon pots, with a soil mix bought at the local indoor "garden" supply. I have been using AN Sensibloom on them every other day since flowering.

Here are a few pics:

#1 is the herm, #2 is the larger lady. Both of these are just over 4ft as of today. #3 is the smaller lady and is just about 30 inches. The last 3 pics are close ups on the herm. The larger female is just beginning to flower w/in the last few days, so there's not much to see there up close. The little female has actually been flowering for about 10 days, and buds are starting to form (not pictured)

So I'm looking for feedback. Any thoughts on plant health, grow strategy, yield enhancement, ect. would be greatly appreciated!

Since my largest female is just starting to flower, Im concerned about frost being in northern NE. It seems like a slow finisher so I'm looing for a few suggestions here. If anyone has a good sense of when the first frost usually happens, that would be helpful also.

Thoughts on Sensibloom?

I have a few questions about herms as well.

Can i smoke the bud? and the pollen sacs?

There are clearly branches that are male or femal on the same plant, can i cut off the male branches? Or will this create too much shock to the plant?

I have been picking the pollen sacs off as they mature, but there are far to many for that now. I actually wouldn't mind a little seed stalk but if i can keep some flower sites (cola) from being pollenated I would prefer it.

Any insight for you vet would more than welcome.

Thanks to everyone here for creating such a great community! I been to some other forums and it seems like a bunch of bickering bitches really. Keep up the solid work boys.

Sorry for the length here, I didn't realize I had so many questions until i started posting:-o

Starting with the frost. I am in the northwest which is about the same lattitude. We can see frost as early as late october. So you might get lucky if the weather hold out. You can build a little box around your plant with pvc pipe bought at local hardware store. Cover it with thick black garbage bags for 12 hours each to for prefed photoperiod.

Second ill adress herms. Get the females as far away as possible. Yes you can cut the male branches and leave female colas. Just remember the pollen from one sac will be enough to ruin your crop with seeds. That being said if it pollinates it self you are likely to end up with fem seeds. This is how I got 100% female rate and my last batch of seeds. Tho these fem seed are likely to herm again if not treated better that the conditions that made it go herm in the first plase. Oh and don't smoke whatever comes off the herm, it will only dissapoint you.

Good luck!

I hear ya on the keeping them apart deal. I had the ladies way in the woods, but had to make a trek and bring them closer b/c of the hurricane...

It's not worth smoking the bud at all? It looks like it's gonna have some decent nugs...man that's depressing...

man it aint worth it...throw that hermie away bro, your just asking for seeded bud, for nothing. It will not pull enough to be worth the chance at all. The other plants look very healthy and happy, again, don't ruin em' with funky hermie

Wheezer, thanks for stopping by. I seen many a thread w/ your priceless input, and i appreciate it here as well. So you're on board with tossing the herm also huh? Is it b/c of lack of potency, shitty pollen sacs, or low yield?

I have been keeping them far away from each other, i've stashed my herm in the shed to ride out the storm. The ladies are going in the basement and then back to their wooded home.

NW & NE should not be compared to one another in terms of frost. Look up your frost date to get a basic idea but remember you have them in pots. If it gets too cold bring them in. What do you do when it gets too chilly? go inside. If that's an issue place them in a shed or something. You can easily wrap it up with some row cover. build a little tent out of plastic placing gallons of hot water in them to heat the tent. Lots of ideas. Two types of frost and the one you really have to be concerned about with all plant matter save for the hardiest is the killing frost. It's the frost that turns green things black. So there's light frosts and killing frost, big difference. A lot of plant matter including the kid you're growing can tolerate light frosts. Still though it's wise to shelter plants when cold approaches.

Thanks for the kind words MrMJ

Okay so it sounds like tossing the herm is the consensus. Although, assuming that I can eliminate the chance of cross pollination, why trash the herm. Is the bud unsmokable, seeds junk?

well if its a genetic herm, yes the seeds are pretty much garbage, bc most if not all seeds will end up being hermie plants, however, if the hermie was stress induced or sumthing of that nature,, meaning that the plant is a genetic female, but popped out male parts due to shock, ur seeds will be mostly fem, this imo is unlikely tho, bc many of my fem plants, especially one in particular, has been stressed to shit, first a deer got to em, ripped of 2 braches broke over the main stalk, taped it up it healed, then a rabbit chomped a bunch of fan leaves and colas, and ended up ripping another branch down, taped it up it healed, and just recently a wind storm knocked the bucket over breaking 2 branches, taped em up and there healing as we speak, so this plant in particular has been to hell and back , and stressed to shit, still all female, no herm, ppl make it out to be that if u transplant, ur gonna herm ur plant its not like that, so chances are the plants a genetic herm, so it will produce hermie seeds, and being fully pollenated, ur not gonna get the least bit of bud of it, if u can fully isolate it, like not meaning u just put it in a separate spot in the woods,u gotta put it miles apart or indoors if u can, then yes u can keep it, but if u do keep in mind YOU can transport pollen too, like u check ur hermie plant, pollen gets on ur clothes or hands ect. and then when checking ur girls u end up pollenating them, ask ur self is it worth the risk, its painfull to rip up a plant, i even hate ripping up the males, but u get over it, and no in the long run thats whats best, u ripped up ur males rite, cuz u have a pic of one up, wanted to make sure u got them out

psych, thanks for dropping the knowledge. Sounds like my shed will be an easy cure!
be weary tho like i said after checking ur hermie to be extremly causes of pollenating ur girls, so change ur clothes wash ur hand, even shower if u can to ensure u dnt bring ne pollen back w/ u

MrMJ what can I say...your argument is so compelling, and yet i don't know if i can bring myself to kill it. I was def winging it in the beginning and had very irregular lighting and transplants. I think it is prob is a gentenic female. As for the bud part, it has flower all over and they are growing quickly the last week. Some branches have no signs if male traits. They may have seeds but at bud to smoke, right? I guess i want someone to come out and say...NO, DON'T SMOKE IT because...?

i want to clarify, the herm stay in my back yard. The females are and always have been WAY out in the woods. The only reason that they are w/in 1 + miles is that i brought the girls in to prepare for the hurricane comming through...

alright just make sure u keep them far far apart at all times, and be extremely cautious not to transport pollen on ur clothes ect. ur herm, will produce sum smokeable bud, but the majority will be seeds,

I had a plant that hermied last year. I grew it out along with a couple of small females. They all got seeded. I harvested the hermi, cured and jarred it and forgot about it. I came accross it and tried it about a month ago. It was some of the best tasting bud I've ever smoked. It smelled like sweet sweet fruit. Then the head aches came. I could'nt figure out why I was getting frequent head aches untill I ran out of the hermi pot. I'm not saying yours will give you a headache, but it made it this far.:weed:IMG_1137.jpg I say keep it and give it a try! Here's a pic of the trimmed bud!

Herm or even seeded females for that matter, taste nowhere near as good as sensimelia. The problem lies with what the plant is going through after being pollinated. The plant shifts into overdrive to produce the seed. A plant entire life cycle is for very few reasons, goals, but it's formost goal (thought if you prefer), it survival of it's species. Alot of effort from what would be bud pruduction goes into survival of the seed. It still works on survival of it's self, but slows.
