DJ SHORT BLUEBERRY FROM SEED, FIRST TIME GROW!! (updated daily)

Hey Everyone. I started reading roll it up pretty regularly when I started my plants. I have been able to take a lot of great advice and use it at the beginning of my very 1st grow. I decided that I wanted to share my grow with everyone, and also GET SOME ADVICE IF ANYONE HAS IT. This is a great community and as a medical marijuana patient I believe it is important to help each other.

STORY OF THE SEEDS
I purchased these DJ SHORT BLUEBERRY Seeds from one of the best medical facilities in San Francisco. Unfortunately it has shut down but for all those out there who live in San Francisco dispensaries I would say that we miss CMC and are very sad to see it go.

Two Days before they were closing I bought a pack of DJ SHORT BLUEBERRY , 10 pack for 170. I know its steep but I have had the exact strand from there before and I know that the seeds are from the plants that I have smoked previously. I would say that DJ SHORT is one of my favorite strains.
Anyways waited about 2 weeks and then started germination.

GERMINATION AND ROOTING
I germinated 10 seeds in a paper towel. I put a bowl over the plate to make it dark and stuck it in the back of a cabinet. In about 4 or 5 days they had all sprouted. I made a mistake and didn't wait for the white root to stretch out about an inch or two because I was anxious. This resulted in me only having 5 of these plants take root. I rooted them in rock-wool cubes and kept them under flourecent light for about 1 month.

EQUIPMENT, POTTING, VEGING
I am doing a closet grow the space is about 3 x 3 and at the moment I am using 1 600 Watt light bulb with a Sun System reflector. I am using Fox Farm ocean soil as well as all the fox farm nutrients.

Light :1 600 W with a Sun System Light Shield
Space: Closet 4x3
Pots: 2 gallon Pots
Medium: Soil (Fox Farm Ocean Mix)
Nutrients: Fox Farm (Grow Big, Tiger Bloom, Big Bloom, Open Sesame, Beastie Bloomz, Cha Ching), Super Thrive
Light Cycle: 18/6 for Veg, 12/12 for Flower
Watering Schedule: Once every 2 days, 1 cup per plant

I am watering about every 2 days, 1 cup of water for each plant. I spray the plants with water whenever I can ( just regular 6 PH water would love a suggestion for this) . I change the water about every two weeks and have been following the advice of fox farm for the feeding dosage. I actually only use HALF of what is suggested which is what I have heard from a lot of people

As of the moment I am two weeks into my veg. Some pants rooted a little better than the others so there are a few that are bigger. As of now the plants are extremly.

LIGHTS AND TEMPERATURE/ HUMIDITY
It has gotten a little hot this week where I live so that max temperature has been about 90 F but only for about an hour. Other than that they are about 85F when the light is on max, have had it down to about 79 F with the light on as well. When the light is off I have gotten as low as around 75 F but it is pretty much around 79 F to 81 F mostly. I keep my lights about 16 inches from the top of the plants. From reading a lot on this site I think my temperatures are fine and the plants have been thriving. The humidity I have ranges from 40 all the way down to 20 sometime. I would say it mostly stays at an average 30 which I think is going well for me. There are no burns on the plants are they are staying very green as well.

THE NEXT STEP:
I still have to determine the sex of the plants but before I put them into flowering I want to veg about 2 more weeks to make it an even month.

OK I NEED ADVICE ON THE NEXT PART
I was planing to take clones around the month range, about 5 from each and start rooting them in rockwool. Once I find the sex of the plants I am going to go ahead and take the males out and keep the females. I plan to use the cuttings I take from the plants to do my mothers from and just flower the ones I have already started that I am finding the sex from. Some people have told me to go into flower then go back to veg but I think that might be a little to advanced for me at this point but I WOULD LOVE SUGGESTIONS.

UPDATES
Anyways I am going to go ahead and post everyday updates and possibly pictures every few days of what is going on. Excuse the lines on the pictures because it is with an IPHONE and the HPS messes it up. Well i would appreciate any help and would love to start talking to everyone and get suggestions.

The place where I got them at was Van Ness and Post. Thy were called CMC and they are not around anymore because they got shut down.

This place was the king of clowns. They kept Mothers and a lot of other strains. There was a women who took care of them and took a lot of pride in clones. She was very business but she knew what she was doing when it came to genetics. I wanted to buy the mother straight from them but it just turned out that I could not drive all the way back to where I live with it, it would have been the best money ever spent especially caiuse the seeds were so much. Would have saved me TONS of time to, but you cant always win them all.

Plus I know a lot of people that just start form clone and thats a great thing but if you are really trying to learn how to do this you need to start from the beginning process and take your time. DONT RUSH.

I don't tell you about the temp couse you can't do anything I guess...
But while you veg them, humidity could be a little higher and I can see you have empty space in the closet use it, put some bowls with water there... everthing with a big water surface is fine...

The ferts: Rather not too much thats right.
Every marijuana strain has different needs so you will have to try, if this would be jack herer you could probably use the double of the suggested.
Your plants look healthy unless that I can see a very little bit that it's a little too hot and dry for them, as long as they don't show any deficit I would keep going on with the fert like you are doing now.

Thanks for your suggestions Man. I will try to definitely get the humidity up. Now I have a plastic bucket that is housing my water that is outside my room right now. Should I put it in the closet and uncover it or should I just take a separate bowl of water and put it inside my plants.

I have read a couple of different posts from people growing blueberry where I have been told that it doesn't do well with to much nutrients, its pretty much a light feeder. I am going to stick with half the suggested amount right now and give it a week and see how it goes.

ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS ITS MOST APPRECIATED

Good news overnight. I left the door open so the temperature went down considerably. We are now at 79 F with the light on in the early morning, which I feel is idea. Going to check what the temp is during the dark cycle today hopefully it will go down to about 72 F.

I still have a humidity of about 25 and i have a bowl of water in there but it didnt do much. Would love any suggestions I can get about raising humidity without buying a humidifier.

For the humitity you're looking for surface area of water, the larger the surface area the more evaporation. Shallow trays work good.

Blueberry is a light feeder, I peak at 1200 ppm in soil.

If you plan on waiting a month, they will show sex from the base of the stem, and already be mature.

-I hadn't sprouted seeds in a long time, and I thought I would have to take clones and flower them in order to determine sex, I forgot how quickly they show sex from the main stem branch.

Leaving the door open is maybe an option, but you have to enshure thats it's closed when the light is off, so that your plants don't get stressed form other lights outside the closet, and you should not leave it wide open, couse usually it reflects light, wich will get lost if it's wide open...

Anyway if you get more water in there, the vaporizing water has a cooling effect too.

As larger the water surface as better, put the bucket and some bowls in there. You have a lot of empty space use it.

You may also hang a white towel or a big white t-shirt in a corner with one end in a water bucket if just bowls aren't enough!

That is some great adive Mr. Howard I appreciate it. I am kind of new to growing and I feel like I dont have a keen enough eye to tell the sex of the plant without flowering. Is there anything that I can specifically look for that you could explain pretty easily so that I will be able to tell the sex.

As far as the soil goes I do not have PPM tester but I do have a PH soil tester. Right now I am at about 6.7 PH right now in the soil so hopefully that is ok. I am at the end of the second week of veg and I plan to do so for atleast two to three more weeks so if I will be abel to tell sex then, I can just mother my plants.

Sound like a great idea. I went ahead and moved my nutrient filled water into the closet right near the plants. I also have one bowl of water in there at the moment so I will go ahead and see if that raises some humidity. If not I will try the t shirt Idea. If all else fails I might just have to go by a humidifier.

About the Sex thing, when you think you see something, you could upload some macro pictures so we can tell you...

Anyway, #1 on both pics is what makes a plant female...
Be carefull, newbies often think #2 is #1 and for shure it's not^^

Thanks maxivenezuela. The pics will deff help. Just judging by looking I feel like the female is smaller and sharper and the males are longer and looser. Just from the pic thats what I see.

Would you think I will be able to tell sex before throwing it into flower. I know previously from other people experiences as mentioned before you will be able to tell before flower. I that is the case it would definitely save me some time.

Hey Joe, I would take clippings after your current plants are well grown in teh vegetative state. Mine are going on 2 months, and are ready for clippings. Then I root them in about a week and a half, then place those into flowering, by the time you have sexed them, you can start taking the right clippings from the right plants and dispose of the males.

That way you can keep a constant harvest. Other wise, it would take a long time to get you female clippings to be large enought again to take clippings. You have have had 3-4 sets of harvest on the way!

Just my 2 cents. When you say change your water every 2 weeks, do you mean your running ebb and flow or os some sort. It was not in your first post, and was curious because I just went to a 600W from a 400W, organic to ebb and flow, and have a simular setup as yours........

So far, for your first grow, you gots great equipement, and sounds like you've got lots up there for your first grow for sure. Keep up the good work!

Yea Dewy I went top of the line spared no expense. I am not doing hydro just soil. I am watering the plants myself every two days. Dont want to bring the pump in just yet because I am around all the time and dont mind watching the process myself. Its funny cause I was an idiot and actually bought about 3 g's worth of equipment but I also was originally planing on doing a bigger grow with more lights in hydro. Now I have about 3 lights I dont use that are sitting collecting dust. One day when I move I might find good use for them.

As far as the harvesting goes I think I am going to wait till the month is out and see if I can tell the sex without flowering. If I can then there go more clones ready to root and veg for another month.

If that does not work then I will deff take your advice and just clip a few and then root for a week then flower. But my question is if I root for a week and then flower what do I do with the plants. Should I just let them continue to flower or should I kick them back into veg. Remember I am a first timer here so the less hassles the better on the first run.

Anyways let me know peeps. And I appreciate everyone that has been blogging on my forum. Keep it up peeps.

I would take ur clippings, and veg them for 2 weeks to a month depending on your heigth limatations! After they get to a good healthy size, then flower them, but just keep in mind they double in size. So u determine how big they need to get in veg and after flower.

I will be sending my clippings straigth into flower because I just want one solid cola to produce bud at a short height for several reasons.

1. Less trimming to do at harvest
2. More plants in a smaller area using a perpetual harvest
3. I have a height limitation of 2 feet from grow medium.

yea I have about 5 feet of height so I should be fine. I think I will do a 1 month veg. I was wondering QUESTION FOR EVERYONE, How Many plants do you think I can have under 1 600 W light. I was thinking about 12

DeweyKox

My 600w ebb and flow can fit 24 pots. But keep in mind my height and smaller plants. If you have 5 feet, I would veg for 2 months and get a huge harvest off like 6 plants. For it all depends on how big u veg thme up for flowering.
