The only benefit the 132s have is that you dont need any type of heatsink. I am still planning on building a frame using aluminum baker pans and angle aluminum. But yeah for $10 more you can get 4 288's instead. Kind of hard to pass that up.

I also just got the email that they are shipped!
My understanding is that as long as you run the 288's at the same wattage as you would the 132's (60 watts or less) you don't need heatsinks for the 288's.

Even if you don't "need" a heatsink to run the 288's, they're not as thick as the 120 and 132 boards so it's really fragile. Also, running a heatsink is going to make them run cooler than if you don't run a heatsink, and that gives you a little free efficiency boost. Just buy the heatsinks or stick with the 120's. Or at least stick them to baking sheets.

Yeah I thought that the 288s would be fine @ 60W bc the actual product page it says *may* require a heatsink or aluminum at 60+ watts. But before I bought them I emailed HLG and they said that over 50W you should use a heatsink. On the QB Guides page though it does say 50+ so I think that might have been a typo on the product page.

Seeing as how mine wont be able to draw more than 60W each anyway I am planning on just using half size 12 gauge baker sheets with some angle bars added for extra cooling + a way to hang them. But in meantime I called a local machine shop that said they might have some stuff in the scrap pile, just waiting for the shop guys to get back from the holidays and see what they can dig up.

Yes, but yoour only using the driver at 80% capacity, more or less the same as with 3x 48V boards.

You could also use it for strips or cobs i guess. Your best bet is 5 x 36v chips of some sort or maybe 9 x 20v chips.
It was used for cobs but want to keep moving upwards :)

I've got an old QB304 running at 70w on a minimal heatsink and I still keep a fan pointed at it because it gets hotter than you would think it should at 70w. There is a reason they moved up to the slate heatsinks. You should be fine, but definitely point a fan at it.

I'm building a new grow for non canna plants. I based it off my experience with the 288s. I figured i could lower the wattage with some crossover lighting, higher efficiency, morw points of light, 4000k and the fact it will be a "veg" only. I got 4 v2 qb132's on a hlg 185 1400. This is about 2.6 umol/j, 33,000 lumens i believe and total cost about 200$. Slightly higher efficiency than the rspec and bit more watts than the 135w kit. Mounted them to a wooden frame for now. This is a 2x4 tent.
I like that see through connector. Fuckin cool mate.

Hey guys,

New member here;
Looking at my options to build my own light to cover a 5x5 tent and put 1K HPS to shame. Doing the hid to led switch and don't want to be dissapointed.

For the space I thought of running 6-8x QB96 ELITE V2's simply attached to aluminum angle through the heatsink. Would be running 3-4x HLG 320h drivers, unsure what the best I know it must be a 54a.

Also considered going 4x QB96 with 2 320h drivers and another to power 4x chiled growmau5 v3 red pucks at ~110w each on top of the 4 QB96's

Another option being running 4x QB96 as well as either 4-6 QB288 R spec's with heatsinks and either 2x 240w driver if i'm going with 2 boards per 240w driver or go 3 QB288'S on a 320w driver x 2.

What do you guys think?
Looking for some input on maybe how I should go about layout for any of these options in a 5x5 configuration as well as what would be my best option for bang for buck with either a combo of QB96's and 288's or growmau5 pucks and QB96's or maybe just straight QB96's and run some supplemental red lighting?

I use a damp rag, or if I'm feeling adventurous, some rubbing alcohol. They don't really get that dirty though. I have a QB304 that has been running for 3 years and I've never cleaned it. I just blow the dust off the heatsink.
I accidentally touched some of the diodes as I was moving stuff around, just wanna clean my greasy prints off em basically.

Just an update on my first HLG 320w Rspec harvest. Well over 1000 grams wet. Should net me a pound or better which will put me in the the 1.5-2g per watt area. Some of the prettiest and most dense flower I’ve ever grown. Few pics I grabbed while I was trimming.

Morning RIU... I am now in the process of figuring out how to mount the 8 boards I got. I will be running them at 60w each, powered by an HLG-240 per 4 boards. I need to build a DIY frame with a bit of aluminum to help dissipate heat.

Last night I was doing some digging trying to find some 0.125" thick, 12x48" aluminum sheets for cheap. BuyMetals has 3003-H14 alloy available for $85 shipped for 2. Not bad, but not sure if that will be too soft and easy to bend?

I plan to build a frame around the aluminum sheet using angle bar to help give it some 'fins' and a little more stability.

I did find some 0.050 gauge (1.27mm thick) 12x48" sheets locally for a blowout price of $7 each. They are not as thick but are made of a stronger alloy 6061. Will this work?
