Boards can be wiredin parallel. That way the DC voltage is not too high.

These Molex connectors are rated 9Amps and max 300V

For series connection you can connect up to 2 boards in series. The voltage is higher than parallel, other than that this config works fine too.

However do not connect 3 boards in series. That exceeds connector voltage and i don't like playing with 300+ DC voltage unless I am building a time machine or particle accelerator.
so much info buried in this thread.almost be nice to take all of stephen's and robin's posts and put them into a new thread on 1 page

i did but it was goofy as the board was physically in the sphere and absorbing photons and wasnt really relatable to the same data generated with a cob mounted outside the sphere

i was going to do a tent test with QB vs cobs run efficiently (say 1 QB vs 6 cheap cobs like 1212s at 10-15W each on a similar sized heatsink) but thats a whole different setup.

bigger picture is something like:
use sphere to run individual chips
build chips into fixtures
run fixtures in tent (say standard 3x3 gorilla)
develop par mapping of tent (average of 25 points?)
somehow be able to make a correlation between sphere par and umol/J and real world fixture data

thats like a year of work realistically

either that or build a 4-6' fiberglass sphere.

now that i have one i realize theres not much voodoo to it. a sphere is a sphere and you can buy the coating. beyond that its just calibrating your sphere/detector setup with a known nist light source, which is the same process regardless of sphere size.

makes me want to open a light lab its insane what those guys charge for what they do

hey @sixstring2112 when i was in town at the doctors yesterday i toured my friend of a friends shop he has 2 cnc mills a plasma table and a bunch of other toys. he makes these

he makes what ?
as for qb testing vs cobs i think if you can get it into a sphere because of size its not worth all that extra stuff to do the test you speak of as robin and stephen already gave us most of the other data now.the bottom line is lpw is very high on these qb so i cant see any reason why they wont be great.

what is attached to the side of the driver? is that something for cooling? or is just to make it look symmetrical?

Yeah that red frame is really sweet and so is the super clean whole build. A really nice shade of red too.

What are the screws or screw covers on the back of the board/heatsink? I see you have the stock screws on the board side but on the heat sink side it looks like a Allen bolt.

Also what is that dimmer box that is holding the wire connections?

@robincnn @Stephenj37826 what can i do ,if anything with a pair of these drivers (i actually have 4 of these) or do i need to use something different? I have 4 x qb and 4 x heatsinks i want to make something on the higher power side of things.the plan is a square frame build with 4 cobs on the corners and 1 in the center,all of them will be 2700k or 5000k but haven't decided yet which color i will use

i think could run 2 panels in parallel @ 125 watts each per driver or maybe more at a lower wattage

I did setup a light with 4 cobs at the corners and a panel in the middle, and i really like it. I think it does a great job of evenly distributing the light.
