DIY Space tote 1st time grower any advice is helpful!

This is my first grow. I've had about 30 old random seeds sitting in a ziplock for quite some time. I decided to just try and germinate 4 seeds just to see what happens. Didn't expect anything but a couple of days later they started popping. I was super unprepared but just like when I had my kids and I was unprepared I still told myself I'ma take care of my babies. This is my first time growing a plant of any kind period so I did some research that day and built my babies a home the next day. This is the morning of day 3 in my DIY space tote. I used two sterilite totes stacked, painted the insides white with spray paint and then cut two intake fans on the bottom and one exhaust fan on top. I drilled holes in the bottom tote for drainage and used one of the lids as a drip pan on the bottom. I am running a 125w CFL right now but I am aware that I will need more light in the near future. I also stuck a thermometer in there and the temps have been staying between 74F and 80F. I planted them in Fox Farm Ocean Forrest soil in cups and plan on moving them into pots in about 10 days or so. I have been only giving them distilled water. I also have a timer for the light so that I can keep the babies on a 18/6 schedule. 3 of the babies are growing the 4th came up a bit and I have my fingers crossed that she will start losing that shell and also shoot up like the rest. Can anyone please help me with advice on what other lights will I be needing and when to add them, also if I am missing anything? This is my first grow of any kind and I'm just trying to pick your brains and make sure I get it right! Thanks in advance. (Please keep in mind that I am on a budget and can probably only spend about $60 more bucks on this at this time)

Nice setup for gettin knowlegde. of course you cannot have 4 plants inside this box. I recommend you choose the strongest and bushier of them and stick with just 1 plant. lots of Low stress training.

After your learn, believe me, you will a lot. You can move to other better setups with stronger lights, space, etc...

But keep the good work. Growing is a great thing to do.

Enjoying the process is the key.
Dont be anxious and obsessed to see things changing. Let it be!

Good grow brotha

Thank you. I will take your advice and keep 1 plant in there. I will also see if I can build some more inexpensive setups for the other plants before the end of next week. I would hate to just see those babies die so I'll at least try and build them something out of cardboard and I think I might even have some extra Lowes buckets I can use. What type of lighting would you recommend for the others that won't break the bank but at least give them a fighting chance?

I cannot recomend anything but hps or cob lights (Cree, Citizen, Vero etc). its what Ive been using all of my life.
No word for HPS but I live in Brazil, summer here is crazy hot so I had to change to COB's and is not the only advantage. Lower temps, Lower power consumption, easy to set up and pratical.

About the budget, you can find a 50w cob on ebay for a 100us or so. that will be brigther than the 250W fluo. but those lights needs more space. you have to let them 30cm to 45cm above from the canopy.

I know you can grow weed with CLF's but I never did.

29.00 x 19.00 x 18.00 Inches Those are the dimensions for each tote individually
Cool, so 18" is the height of each tote?
29x19" means you have a bit over 3.8 square foot. If you get yourself and efficient LED you can run about 115w
If you get a cheap LED your looking at 200w range (power consumption)

Something like a HLG100 would do you or just google LEDs with Samsung 301b and it should give you some options.
Or build yourself a nice little light using strips, google "led gardener strip builds"

Or stick with your cfl and stick a few extra household LED bulbs in there to supplement.

Sorry for the late ass update. This was the turnnout for the trash can and tub. I ended up getting a little over 2 ounces from each plant after dry and cure so it was definetly worth the learning experience. Also tasted and smoked great so for dure worth the time!

I wouldn’t of use the paint inside the bucket. When you go to start running that light for about two weeks it’ll be fine but in a month and a half that paint is going to start chipping relieving cracks for light. Good luck

My setup was 125 dollars for a closet I’ll show pics. Three fans Mylar that comes on insulation pipes and a grow light gets my close to a pound and a half each with two plants supercropped and lollipoped. I’m in week 1 of flower this season.

Oh yeah amazon had a iplantop 1500 watt for 110 dollars and it actually works better than Mars hydros 1000 watt. I switched old 10000 Luman cfl lights to the 1500 and my canopy exploded in less than a week. Look at all those pretty colas piping up.

I used windshield screens

Thanks guys. I know there was a lot I could've done different and better but it was my first grow and I was just working with what I had. I really apologize I really wanted to take you guys through this grow but I dropped the ball on that because I'm horrible with threads and posting updates. I actually built another grow space in a trash can for this grow and took someones advice on here and focused on 1 plant per space. The trash can was terrible compared to the tote but the weed still grew and tasted great. During this grow out of those 4 plants 2 made it that is why i said I got 2 ounces out of each plant. So in total I had 2 plants 1 in each grow space and got a little over 2 oz. from each plant leaving with me with almost 5 ounces in the end for the indoor grow. I learned so much during this grow. I even cloned the trash can plant and fudged the original plant right up by dropping my homemade light on it. So the final product for the trash can was actually a clone. We also sat another clone of it outside by the tomatoes and it turned up great as well and gave us a little over an ounce and a half. Here are some more pics of how that trash setup was and the outside plant. Lastly thanks to everyone on here giving advice and actual input not just throwing shade left and right. Sorry I know i be rambling and not making sense sometimes but I be high so you gotta excuse me! Follow my IG homegr_own
